Night Falls

He moves slower than he used to, gets tired more easily. He still spends most of his days in the barn, carving boats that will float no where in the desert and naming them after the beautiful redheads who once inhabited his life. "Adam,"he turned slowly to look at him. While they weren't close Daniel knew how much he and Liz had meant to each other. While they had been involved with his life it was much different for Daniel. He'd had a mother and he remembered when his father was a lighter and happier man. With his baby sister not having that link it only made sense how close she was to them.

He nods. "You've been wandering tonight?" It's an obvious statement, but feels necessary. He never used to fill silence with words that weren't needed. Now, he talks to horses. "You been out to the grove?"

"Yeah, I took what I brought out to Liz,"he nodded. He didn't mind the silence being filled with random chatter. He did the same thing pretty often.

He nods again and looks at the bench that's gone unused in years. He thinks the last time it was used, Jaime sat on it, wrapped in an old sweater of Liz's. There were times he could have sworn she was as much Liz's daughter as Jenny's. "She'd hate that it's become a memorial. That was her last wish to me, that she not be really remembered in any way. Wanted to fade away into nothingness."
