To sleep, perchance to dream ...

CJ's god awful music kept him awake for the drive back from North Carolina, but after dropping them off he is sure he makes it home on luck alone. He doesn't want to sleep, not particularly, but the body demands it and at least this time he makes it up the stairs before collapsing. His sweatshirt (freshly purchased from the Wake Forest book store) ( Read more... )

Once again, Jenny finds herself on Gibbs' front steps without any real reason as to why. Her car is pulled in behind his truck, but she's not sure whose car they took to Wake Forest. He might not even be back yet. She pushes through the door and a dead silent house greets her. At least he's not passed out on the couch like last time ( ... )

His sleep is not so deep that he cannot sense a change in the physical presence around him, but he does not stir. His mind has taken pity on his body, keeping him wrapped in the warm arms of a woman he cannot touch. They breathe together, some subconscious acceptance of his situation, and he floats.

But she moves ... and he stirs ... following her ... his mind speaks her name ... his lips only mumble.

"..er ..." and he rolls over, still asleep, burrowing his face in his pillow, his body following the movement in his mind. Chasing her. "Heath ..." he mumbles again, his face still planted in the pillow.

Well, now she has to wake him up. Fucker. Jen pushes off the door frame and crosses over to him. He's facing away from her now and she toys with dropping the bedside lamp on his head, but she decides to act like he didn't say anything. It's not the first time his unconscious mind has made it painfully clear who he prefers. She really should just turn around and not look back. But she's here now and her feet won't move.

"Jethro," she says. The gentleness she might've shown him a moment ago is gone, no matter how hard she tries to pretend everything is fine. But she's not yelling at him, either. Go home, Jenny.

He stirs again but doesn't really wake. Not at first. He is still clinging to the floating feeling, even though his mind and body are telling him to wake up. He groans and rubs a hand over his eyes, leaving the dreamworld behind. Slowly, he sits up and shakes his head. "What are you doing here, Jen?" He winces a bit internally, knowing how rough he sounds, but he just doesn't know if he's up for whatever she's come for. He'd been hoping to sleep.
