Character Name: Aurica Nestmile
Character Series: Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia (Aurica's Route, Neutral Ending, Pre-AT2)
Character Age: 17
Background:
http://artonelico.wikia.com/wiki/Aurica[Because of the multiple routes Ar Tonelico 1 can take, and how the canon goes for the later Ar Tonelico-related games, this section and Personality requires improvised interpretation. I will be doing my best to avoid headcanon, however I'll be assuming Aurica's background and personality reflects her route's progression while keeping a neutral-outcome stance of AT1, despite that there's no way to choose that in-game. It's inferred elsewhere--specifically through AT2--that Lyner's too dense to make up his mind or even acknowledge that three girls are vying for him.]
Torn from a quiet and happy life at a young age during an incident that she blames herself for, Aurica has a severe lack of self-esteeem that is only equalized by the amount of emotional strength she possesses. For most of her adolescent life she doubted her own abilities, cycled by people's impressions of her as the worst class of Reyvateil. She could only put her strength to use in external faith, believing religion or her peers could accomplish feats or save her, to the point that she regularly felt it was not worth her trying to do things on her own terms or strength.
That all changed when she met a youth named Lyner Barsett. Over the course of their adventure, Lyner's pure thoughts and emotions as well as his strength and perseverance touched the hearts of many people, Aurica arguably the most of all. Even from the first moment he met her, Lyner inspired Aurica to use her Song Magic to help and protect, unlocking the depths of her potential. At one point her strength is so powerful she crafted Song Magic outside of her Cosmosphere in order to save him, as well as became capable of singing Extracting-type Hymmns while surviving, events unheard of for a 3rd Generation Reyvateil.
Despite the fact that a good deal of this was possible because of a hole in her Reyvateil subconscious that allowed a pureblood β-type Reyvateil named Mir, the antagonist of the story, to use her as a proxy, Aurica acknowledged through Lyner that it was because of her own willpower and strength that she was able to accomplish such things in the first place. Because of that, she has a much greater sense of self-esteem by the end of the adventure.
Although, it would appear that most of her strength now relies on a person and concepts she learned through that person. It can be suspected that, should Aurica become isolated from Lyner and the rest of the world from where she belongs, she could possibly feel truly alone, moreso than she ever was before due to losing friends and the very things that kept her going. Indeed, should even her potential to sing Song Magic go away along with that, what would she do...? Though, all is not lost, especially if people from her world are also in Mayfield. Maybe she can adapt well enough in this world to live in it, maybe even like it. After all, the offer of a new family is very appealing...
Personality:
Aurica is capable of a wide range of positive & negative emotion and expression, the limiting factor being her mindset at the time, which changes throughout the course of Ar Tonelico. Normally by this point she would have more of her positivity were it not for the fact Mayfield ripped her from everything she knew, so initially she may demonstrate a variant of her former negative personality. In short, Mayfield is potentially going to flip-flop her psyche.
When being negative, she can be visibly depressed and greatly change the 'mood' of an area, as Jack commented once to Lyner in her presence that it felt rather gloomy. She will also tend to deflect praise and attention to herself, thinking very little of whatever accomplishments people see in her. Despite this, she can have an inferiority complex from being compared to better people most of her life, which made her jealous of her best friend Claire, a Reyvateil possessing a great singing voice along with a well-developed body. Her lack of confidence can be gauged by how softly she tends to speak.
In contrast, she can be rather empowered with her sense of self, switching from being scared of many things to fully believing in herself and her abilities, a trait easily noticed as her Song Magic as well as her manner of speaking become more composed and confident. Her variance of expression lies in the notion that she has subconsciously religious concepts of being both good and evil, as shown in her Cosmosphere where she has both an Angel and Devil form of herself. Thusly, she can be just as much of a pure, innocent and righteous girl as much as she can be a joker and lustful, possessive person, depending on motivation.
Regardless, she has a very great fear of death--not for herself, but for others. This is deeply ingrained with psychological trauma she experienced as a kid from her village of Skuwat being mostly destroyed along with her parents. She doesn't want anyone else in her life to die, and can go to lengths to prevent it, whether by tapping her deep potential of Song Magic in unexpected ways, or by sacrificing herself, as she did when she wanted Lyner to let go of her hand during a time when both her and Lyner were gripping the bottom of an airship.
A quirk to her personality, if one above all can be named, is that she has a unique way of naming things, usually by function and look. Many people are fond of giving objects and people nicknames, but would you really call an important part of a teleporter a "Kitty Bowl"? [Beat. Yeah.] Another quirk is that her cooking can look extremely weird but somehow always manage to taste wonderful, often to the extreme surprise and unexpected delightment of those who try her meals. Finally, she's a closet cat-fanatic: She'll do anything from conversing with cats in similar tongue to acting like and sleeping with them (on the floor or wherever), as long as no one else is around at least.
Abilities:
+ 3rd Generation Reyvateil: Aurica was a daughter of a human male and a female Reyvateil, a unique female-only race that was originally created by humans, tend to live up to 150 years old (though this only applies to purebloods), and usually have the capability to reproduce. Only female offspring of this kind of mating can become Reyvateils. Because of this, she inherits the ability to sing Song Magic as well as other numerous features, both good and bad.
+- (S/)D-Class Song Magic & Hymn Usage: Unfortunately, possibly due to her lack of faith in herself at times, her abilities are ranked the worst in power. She has more than proven herself by the end of her adventure and has demonstrated up to S-Class abilities numerous times, but some may argue that it is not due to her own power... [Aurica has had most of, if not all of her Song Magic crafted already. Decision on how to handle this pending.]
- Install Port (Tattoolist): Each Reyvateil, pureblood or not, has a spot on their bodies used to augment their Song Magic with Grathnode Crystals as well as download Hymn Crystals. 3rd Generation Reyvateils however suffer from Tattoolist, a disease accompanied by high fevers where they must have others Install an item called Diquility every three months or perish. As they have a poor lifespan already (40 years at maximum, less with Grathnode Crystals used), overuse, abuse, or malnutrition of the Install Port and Song Magic can significantly reduce their mortality. [Lyner's too kind to Install much of anything, at least in my viewpoint. Aurica enters Mayfield without any Installs other than the Hymn Crystals she downloaded, Purger included.]
+ Cosmosphere: One of the key necessities of crafting Song Magic is to encourage the Reyvateil to use their imagination. This is normally achieved by having someone the Reyvateil trusts 'dive' into their subconscious, into a digital soulspace called the Cosmosphere. Usually occupied by a Mind Guardian, this is a world that is directly connected to the tower of Ar tonelico, even if for 3rd Generation Reyvateils it is just a copy of their own mind. Very rarely, Song Magic can be crafted outside of this area. [Lyner may already have delved deep into her Cosmosphere, but Aurica can allow others to Dive into her if she trusts them enough. RP/CR concerning this will feature original content plotted by me and participating divers.]
+ Costumes: These outfits are projections from the Cosmosphere, and they also directly enhance the capabilities of a Reyvateil. Most of them correlate to a respective layer in the Cosmosphere, where deeper layers hold much more power to craft Song Magic and unlock stronger forms. Generally, completing a Cosmosphere pertaining to that form enables the Reyvateil to wear it outside of the Cosmosphere, though more risqué forms tend to be too embarassing to wear, at least in public or unless forced otherwise. [Aurica has had most of, if not all of her Costumes already unlocked. Decision on how to handle this pending.]
-+ Tower Contact: A 3rd Generation Reyvateil that exists outside of the influence of Ar tonelico for more than 48 hours permanently loses their ability to use Song Magic or Hymns. This is due to a lack of ping response between the internal structure of the Reyvateil and the Tower. The good side to this would be that they would no longer suffer from Tattoolist. A Pureblood Reyvateil on the other hand however will simply deconstruct, having in essence 'died'. [A replica, miniature version, or relay station of Ar tonelico will likely be required as a regain, not only for Aurica but for all Reyvateils of AT1&2.]

#1
[After getting used to the idea of being in Mayfield a little, Aurica is introduced to the concept of phones. Like most of 1950s America though, she doesn't know anything about the very idea of them, Mayfield's interpretation of it or not.]
So this is a phone? We can use this to talk to people? *picks up the whole device off where it was and peers at it, before being told how to use it*
[...]
This 'black rotary phone' looks cute but we never had anything like this where I was. And it's in everyone's house? This would have made things more convenient back home...
[...]
If it rings like that, it should be called a "Ring Ringer". I can understand that better than telephone.
[...]
It just sounds more appropriate. You don't think it's a bad name, do you...?

[Phone; Anyone Can Respond At Any Point]
Hello? Is anyone there?
... [A feeling of uncertainty creeps in. What if no one from my world is here, after all?]
Lyner, can you hear me? Claire, Radolf? Krusche? Jack? ..Misha? Shurelia?
... [No one's responding. No one's here. I don't want to be here...]
Lyner? It's Aurica, can you hear me?
... [It's hopeless. I feel like crying.]
... Anyone?
