Comments on Readings Set #3: On New Discoveries

Finally, I can properly write a "Comments" article in 200 words.

All of the articles definitely succeeded in catching the reader's interest in regard to the news scientific discoveries that they bring. One thing that struck me with all but the article on the state of scientific research in the Philippines is that they are all short and digestible, probably having less than 1,000 words each. But despite its length, they were able to fit all of the useful information into the article. After reading each article, one would feel as if you've learned a lot from the article than he might expect. The TIME article on dinosaur bones is one interesting read because aside from having the qualities of the articles mentioned earlier, it is also written in a style unique to many science articles. Instead of following the usual did-you-know? format of many science articles, the writer sort of invited the readers with him on just how he was able to discover those dinosaur bones and their unique qualities.

The "Realities of RP science" article, meanwhile, successfully served as an eye-opener to its readers, especially those who wonder why so few significant researches are attributed to Filipino scientists. It was able to show that, similar to other sectors in the Philippines, it is suffering from lack of proper motivation from the Philippine government, among other things. Regardless of the readers' political leaning, the article will definitely raise concern from them.
