It was almost time for them to go.
Starfleet was arriving soon to deal with the Romulans, and the Enterprise would be leaving Agura's orbit and heading out on its new mission.
Kirk had made his last official diplomatic meeting with the village leaders, offering the Federation's friendship to the Agurans, and thanking them for their hospitality while his crew was planetside. He'd persuaded Bones to go with him, reminding him that he might need medical attention, but really? He just wanted to get Bones off the ship and maybe, possibly relaxing for an afternoon.
When they made their way to the site designated as the transporter beam-up spot, there was a group making their way up. Those who were left - Admiral Pike, Ephram Green, Dr Bashir, Ensign Chekov, and the female Spock - along with Bones and Jim, would make up the last group heading back up.
"You okay?" Jim asked, checking out Bones' face to make sure he wasn't flipping out about transporting, like he tended to do.
"... yeah," Bones nodded, his face a little grim. The look he gave Jim said, 'I'll be better in a few minutes.'
Jim glanced back at him, then watched as the group gathered around them. He waited until the last second, then stepped closer to Bones and slid his hand into Bones' and squeezed tightly. "Okay Enterprise, we're ready. Seven to beam up." The faint crackle of the transporter snapped in their ears and they dematerialized.
"Aye-Aye, Sir." Scotty was pretty cheerful to start, giving a pretty broad smile to Transporter Chief Doyle. It was a routine beam-up. Nothing bad occurs on everyday, routine beam-ups, yes? Or at least that's what was supposed to happen, but as the familiar sound of rematerializing organic material ended, Scotty had no choice but to double-take the scene before him. "Do you see what I see, Doyle?" Scotty asked. Doyle just stared, her mouth open.
The latest beam-up was certainly not who they expected: The Captain looked positively dwarfed in his Command Golds. Doctor McCoy seemed to be just as grumpy as a wee bairn as he was as an adult, only fifty times more adorable.
Message to First Officer Spock:
Sir,
We have a small problem aboard. Make that several small problems: It seems that the transporter has de-aged several key personal, including the Captain. What do you suggest we do?
-Scotty.
