Having promised Spock that
he was going to make up a batch of good, sweet Southern cornbread for him, Bones sent Jim a comm, letting him know that there would be dinner guests, and not to work too late.
There was another reason behind it all... from what Jim was saying, they'd be at the New Vulcan Colony very soon, and Bones was more than a little curious. A new homeland for the displaced Vulcan people, and a place of recent 'very high activity' from Starfleet and the Federation. Even being around Spock for the past year, Bones felt at times more than a little uneducated about Vulcan culture, and he thought that dinner, something relaxed and non-stressful, would be a good way of getting information about Vulcan culture and society out of the First Officer. Just information.
He also wanted to interrogate them both on the engagement thing.
The galley delivered their meal - unless a grill was involved, Bones' idea of cooking was asking the galley to prepare some food for them, although he made sure they used his great-grandmother's cornbread recipe. And they came though as always, dinner was being kept warm while he kicked back on the sofa, reading and waiting for everyone else to arrive.
Fundamentals of Vulcan Physiology. Bones had been flipping through the digital pages, his eyes starting to feel a little strained from reading it all day.
Spock's symptoms weren't that unusual, but still, nothing fit. Periods of extreme lethargy weren't unheard of, particularly among inhabitants of a desert climate, but Spock didn't live there anymore, hadn't lived there for many years. Food cravings were also consistent with someone not receiving proper nutrition, but again, Spock's diet wasn't limited by a more narrow Vulcan selection.
The headaches were worrisome, the things that bothered Bones the most. Headaches, along with the sleeping, indicated to him some blood chemistry issue, but the lab results had been normal, though elevated hormonal readings, and a higher than typical adrenaline count for someone at rest. The only thing in the books that even remotely resembled that was Pon Farr, but according to all Bones' data, that wasn't scheduled to happen for several more years. Spock was too young, as funny as that sounded, to be going through puberty. Besides, the other Spock, when he'd first come aboard and underwent the process - he seemed to know all about it, and knew it was approaching, wanted to make the appropriate plans.
Bones knew if it was this, Spock would let him know. Spock, more than anyone, would not want to be caught unprepared.
