Bones' quarters - way too early in the morning (Jim/Bones)

Aug 04, 2009 07:11

Okay, so maybe it wasn't really morning - but it was after 0000 and Leonard always woke up pretty early anyway. There was buzzing around the medical bay, and try as he could, the sleep wasn't coming.

He unhooked himself from the biobed as quietly as possible, trying not to get the attention of the medical staff. The previous night's rest, however fitful it had been, had been enough to see him through his weakest condition, and all he wanted now was to go back to his room.

Lifting his finger to his lips as one of the nurses, shaking his head at Leonard as he saw the CMO shuffle toward the door, Leonard ambled slowly down the hall toward his quarters, which thankfully were close.

A sense of peace settled on him as he entered his quarters. It had been a few days since he'd been here, and the small feeling of home that settled in his chest had a bit to do with the familiar trinkets and treasured possessions that littered the shelves, and a lot to do with the long body sprawled out on his bed.

Bones walked slowly toward him, sitting on the edge of the bed so he could slide the slippers off his feet.

He watched Jim sleeping for what seemed like hours, though it was probably just a few minutes. He looked so warm and peaceful, a half-smile on his face that made his heart ache looking at it. Leonard hoped his was a particularly good dream, and scooted over to the other side so he could get in bed, and maybe enjoy a sweet dream of his own.

Pulling up the sheet revealed another problem altogether - Jim was naked. Bones dropped the sheet, and sat back up. Hadn't expected this, though it retrospect, it wasn't unheard of.

He lay down on top of the covers, deciding that this might be less fun but more honorable, particularly in the spirit of the note he'd sent over last night. He'd meant it - he was willing to wait for Jim, however long it took until he was ready to be with him.

He just hoped he didn't have to wait too long.

That was when he noticed the blinking light.

Sitting up again (and this time, it began to get sore, the pain in his side, from all the shifting) he walked over toward Jim's bag, where his clothing had been ceremoniously dumped on the floor and picked up Jim's communicator, flashing and vibrating.

He looked at the man asleep - God knew he could have used another day and a half of sleep, but he was the Captain - his Captain, and if they had any chance together, Bones knew, he'd have to understand that Jim's duty to the ship was always going to come first. Had to.

He sat back on the bed next to Jim, one hand on his shoulder, squeezing. "Jim?"

jim..., fixing each other
