Artist/Fanworker claims post!

Aug 29, 2014 17:06

Hey everyone! We have 19 great stories up for claims this year. We're really excited about claims!

Now that the deadline has passed, we're putting the summaries up for artists to peruse. The claims don't actually open until Saturday, and please be aware that there will be a few late additions to this list as people turn in fics that have been granted extensions, but we want the fanworkers to have a chance to think about their claims now.

Important note for authors: please do not tell all of your artist friends what number your story is. The point of a challenge like this is to do blind claims, and while people may recognise your story from snippets you've posted or things you've talked about in the past, please don't give them the exact number of your fic. Additional and unrelated note, if your story is missing, or something else is wrong, PM me ASAP so I can fix it.

This post will be closed to comments until claims open on Saturday. We will post a notice that claims are opening (around 12 noon EST), at which point we will open up the comments and each artist can claim ONE story. Once all the stories have been claimed, or if there are still unclaimed stories by Monday, 1 September, we will allow secondary claims.

When requesting your story, please list your top three choices in the order that you want them. Please list the number of the story and the title (e.g., "#11, Nine Tenths"). Please include both pieces of information. That way we can be sure that we don't accidentally give you the wrong piece because of a typo. The claims will be on a first come, first served basis, and we will do our best to confirm your claim as soon as possible.

Fanworkers, if you are not a member of the comm, please join by filling out the form after you make your claim. If you have any questions, please contact us on our page-a-mod post!

Claims will close on Saturday, 6 September, at 11:59 PM EST. Match-ups will be emailed out after that; it will be up to the author to provide the artist with a copy of their draft at that point. If an author notices that their story has been claimed and confirmed before that point, and wants to send their story to their fanworker before match-ups are sent out, that's fine :)

The silence stretches while John is thinking, thinking about how Dick said, they're calling to him and Dick gets up and says, “I'm sorry. I don't know-”

“Yes,” John interrupts, only turning his head so he can look at Dick. “Yes, you can touch them, but you'll have to-” he doesn't know what will happen, only that something primal - desires, wants, needs. Something is pushing.

“What?”

“You'll have to take responsibility for whatever happens.”

The story is written in four parts and takes place in Italy, Russia, France and Greece as Bruce follows the ballet troupe across the Continent. Clothing is 1906-era and while Bruce’s is what a proper gentleman would wear, Dick’s is more bohemian-style, as described in the story.

The violence is not overly graphic, nor is the burning scene, but the concept certainly may disturb some readers. It is a very brief scene

When people are placed under stress, they tend to lash out -- and when one of the Legionnaires is the young image of a man seen as having sold out the people of Earth to the Dominion forces, he makes a convenient scapegoat.

Unfortunately for Inferno, he's made a few enemies in the last few months who are only too happy to take advantage of the other Dirk Morgna's shattered reputation -- which means, as New Earth begins to go up in flames, Inferno needs to prove his innocence.

He's single, has a okay-paying job that isn't particularly awful, lives in a slightly cramped but fairly comfy apartment, etc. Then one Tuesday night, he sees Zatanna fighting an evil wizard. As soon as she's defeated him, Zee is dragging Ted into an alley for sex. He thinks it was just a one-in-a-million bout of adrenaline.

That night, as he turns out the lights, Cassandra Cain slides into his bed and starts kissing him... He wakes up the next morning to find no trace of her, and assumes he was dreaming. Then he finds Platinum of the Metal Men in his kitchen, fixing breakfast.

And so it goes. Every day, a woman who Ted wouldn't even dream of appears out of the blue and has sex with him. The kind of sex varies from down-and-dirty quickies to languorous lovemaking; sometimes it's purely vanilla and and sometimes it's so kinky even he's almost squicked out. Summary: A Steampunk AU where there is no Batman and the Court of Owls reigns over Gotham, until one cop tries to clean up his city with the help of a private investigator. Or where a Talon finds his heart and a new purpose. This story also features Talon-Dick, creepy serial killers, Tim being a genius, Selina seducing boys and girls alike, and Barsad being awesome.
“What?”
“You looked like Lucas used to when we were little on Christmas, waiting for Santa.”
“I’m not waiting for Santa,” Jason snorted. But was it really that different? He was waiting for Dick to bring the boys a gift, a gift Jay was paying for with his silence.
“I know, because Santa isn’t real,” Parker said, and it only sounded a bit sad. Jay hated that the boys had to grow up hard and fast in such a short time. He still got very angry when he thought about Arkham, even if he couldn’t remember half of it. He could piece things together. He knew that he and the twins had been abused.

While Tommy should be happy with his relationship with Laurel and Oliver's return but he isn't as he finds himself questioning if he can handle being second choice in Laurel's heart. Advice from his dad's boyfriend and a new stranger just might open his mind and heart to new possibilities and change his fate, for the better.

11. Title: Nine Tenths
Genre: AU, action, character development

Characters/Pairings: Tim Drake, Jason Todd (mostly preslash but ends up slash towards the end)
Warnings: none
Rating: PG-13

Instead, Jason seems almost single-mindedly obsessed with keeping Tim safe, and Tim is determined to get to the bottom of it.

The story takes place in Houston, largely in an apartment safehouse. There are new costume designs for Jason and Tim, which are described in the story if you want to use them. I'm also willing to talk out details with an artist and am willing to change some of the costuming if needed.

Suddenly, Jason has a totally bogus stepdad, a new stepbrother he's not sure about, and a baby sister on the way. It's not how he saw his life going, but once he and Tim bond over their sister-to-be and decide that they'll be there for her no matter what, Jason finds that he can't really complain. Not too much, anyway.

13. Title: Never Is and Never Should Be
Genre: Drama
Fandom/Universe: Young Justice, Flash, DC Comics
Characters/Pairings: Bart Allen, Max Mercury, Jason Todd, Oracle, Lex Luthor, Nightwing, Red Hood, Blue Beetle, Neutron
Warnings: Some violence, character death
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Bart Allen - Impulse- in the future. In the second half of the 21st century, you have to grow up fast to survive.
Excerpt: [As the people of the world turned against metahumans, superheroes were systemically hunted down and captured, to be experimented on, killed or enslaved. But still, life goes on.
Cities are even more crowded than they were now, filled with massive amounts of people. Few go between the spaces in humanity, the wastelands where the Reach have taken all nutrients, plants and resources from the area divide the land. Sticking together is better; people tend to go missing in the rocky desert.

Bart isn’t old enough to remember a world that wasn’t like this. A world that wasn’t as barren, and ugly. But he still knows enough to long for the time before.]

14. Title: We Can Work It Out
Genre:Comedy/Fluff/Family/Angst
Fandom/Universe:Batfam, DCU Comicsverse preboot
Characters/Pairings:Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, Barbara Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne, Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown, Jim Gordon, Jason Todd
Warnings:mistaken assumption of an incestuous crush, assumed one-sided Damian/Tim
Rating:T
Notes: A follow up to incogneat-oh’s Roses for Red (Robin)
Summary:Damian endeavors to make up for his treatment of Drake and apologize properly; however, Drake refuses to forgive him no matter what he does. Tim does his best to deny, avoid, and ultimately deal with the fact that the demon brat has a crush on him of all people. (Pulling pigtails never felt like quite such an understatement.) Meanwhile, the rest of the family takes sides.

In all of this, there's only one thing everyone agrees on.

Don’t tell Dick.

15. Title: We Are Who We Are
Genre: Friendship/High School/Drama
Fandom/Universe: YOUNG JUSTICE ANIMATED
Characters/Pairings: Artemis, Robin, Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon, Kaldur'ahm
Warnings: graphic violence, underage non-con, mentions of child abuse
Rating: M
Summary: Artemis is one of two non-metas on her team, and normally she's certain that that just makes her cooler, but when Robin and Batman get trapped and tortured, she's the first one on the scene to rescue them, and she has to deal with everything that reveals about them, and about herself. Plus, there's these kids at her school who won't leave her alone until she goes to prom with them, and Robin isn't acting right (who would, really, after that?) and seems to think it's perfectly okay to break into her room at night.

Artemis can't convince Robin to go to prom with her and Dick and Babs, but Robin asks Kaldur to take his place, so she won't end up the third wheel; she'd be worried about him, but she's too busy pretending everything is fine with her own crazy family drama to do much more than let him hide out in her bedroom and bring him lost-and-found rejects since she can't really afford gifts. There is shopping and culture shock, Cheshire makes an appearance to do her big-sisterly duty, and just when Dick is convinced his secret identity is safe, and Robin is convinced he can still be brave, the villain comes back for seconds.

This is a story that's sort of pre-OT3 Kaldur/Artemis/Robin but it's really just a huge friendship and bonding fic with underlying themes of vulnerability and mortality. Wally gets a cameo and Barbara knows everything. The warning for underage noncon is just the first scene, and isn't graphically depicted in any way, and the one for graphic violence is just in case. There are mentions of child abuse, both assumed by one character of another character, and implied to be true about a character. In addition to that, there is identity play with Robin/Dick and general high school shenanigans.

16. Title: Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows
Genre: Romance, Fluff
Fandom/Universe: Batfandom, Non-hero Bronze Age AU
Characters/Pairings: Bruce Wayne/Dick Grayson,
Warnings: 11-year age difference (Dick is 19; Bruce is 30), otherwise none
Rating: Gen
Summary: Recently-divorced Bruce Wayne is feeling lonely in his Manor, so when the Flying Graysons tell him that their son is planning on going to college in Gotham, Bruce thinks this could be the thing that solves his problems.  As it happens, he and Dick already enjoy each other's company, so it seems ideal.

However, when secret feelings from both sides start cropping up, Bruce finds himself dealing with an awkward crush the kind of which he hadn't experienced since college, and Dick finds himself trying to figure out how exactly he's supposed to measure up to the type of person that *Bruce Wayne* could date.

New feelings and uncomfortable confessions, ahoy!  But this ship seems to be one that's being sailed by everyone they know.  The question is, how on earth are they going to make sure it stays afloat?

17. Title: Nightwing Rising
Genre: LGBT, Action/Adventure, Romance
Fandom/Universe: Batman Nolanverse Movies
Characters/Pairings: Robin John Blake/Basard
Warnings:canon typical violence, internalized transmisogamy, transmisogamy, gender and sexual slurrs
Rating: R
Summary:Robin has nothing going for her. She's in a constant holding pattern. She doesn't feel right in her current body, but she's too afraid to take steps to becoming the woman she wants to be.

Then she meets Basard and watches as Gotham crumbles around her. And she learns that being true to herself and her beliefs is the more important than anything, including love. When the time comes to become Batman she makes a different choice. She won't hide her true self in order to become Batman.

Instead she creates a new hero, Nightwing.

18. Title:The Charm of Imperfection
Genre: Romance and adventure
Fandom/Universe: Batman (Batman Reborn era)
Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson/Tim Drake
Warnings: ehem, comic book violence, I suppose
Rating: R
Summary: Dick and Tim are together now and try to work out this new thing between them. Of course, life is never just easy, with Jason out of prison and someone targeting criminals - and with just being Batman and dealing with the Batfamily and their issues.

19. Title: Where the slow wheel pours the sand
Genre: angst/humor
Fandom/Universe: Young Justice (cartoon)
Characters/Pairings: Wally, Bart; Tim/Cassie, mentions of Wally/Artemis
Warnings: none
Rating: T
