I thought I knew him but... [he shakes his head] I guess you know him [he reaches up to tentatively touch the blue stripe of Dick's suit] through the hero thing?
[his fingers curl with a soft sigh at the touch, blushing brightly]
[Touch away, Tim. Dick leans toward him just a bit at the brush of his fingers]. Yeah. He's an old friend. I've known him since I was a kid. Did he do something to hurt you? [Dick frowns. That doesn't sound like Clark].
He's distracted from his frowny thoughts by Tim's blush though. Blushing! His Tim doesn't blush. That doesn't seem fair.] God, you're adorable.
He... I never knew about his...other career. Everyone here seems to know and yet I worked with him every day and never...[He shrugs] It's not important but it bugs me.
[The comment only makes him blush deeper] Hardly...
[Dick's face softens in sudden comprehension. He stops teasing and squeezes his hand] Hey. It's not... it wasn't personal. If he didn't tell you, it wasn't necessarily because he didn't want to, and it definitely wasn't because he didn't like you. Clark's really an honest guy at heart - if he acts like he likes you, then he likes you. And he really is a midwestern farm boy, deep down.
He's got a lot on his shoulders, you know? The whole world, in a way. And he spends a lot of time worrying about his friends, and his family. The people he cares about. Keeping his lives separate is a way to protect people. He didn't tell me his name - Batman figured it out, and then told me. And I never told him mine, either. He worked it out for himself.
He's married, now, in my 'verse. But he didn't tell her for years, even when it was obvious she was crazy about Superman. He could have had the woman he loved, by telling her who he really was, and he chose to keep her safe instead
( ... )
[Tim frowns and looks down.] I guess I'm just being selfish.
[The thought makes him laugh softly] Lois must know. Invulnerable or not, she'd skin him alive if he hid that from her! She's an unholy terror, that woman.
[The complement makes him smile shyly] No, like I said, I'm nothing special.
It's not selfish. He's your friend, and you want him to be honest with you. That part's simple. It's the rest that's so complicated.
I can't say for sure. In my world, she knows now, but it took them a long time. But yeah, she's a little terrifying.
And like I said [Dick squeezes his hand, and with his other hand he reaches out and touches Tim's warm cheek, tilting his face up] I disagree. [He tries for a soft, fairly chaste kiss].
[Anything Tim was about to say vanishes from his head when Dick kisses him. He can't help but reach up to cup Dick's wrist, leaning into the touch. He sighs softly into the kiss, parting his lips ever so slightly.]
[Dick can't let a reaction like that pass without at least a little lick, teasing Tim's bottom lip for a long moment before pulling back a few inches to look at him, smiling]
[Tim pants softly, beet red with blushing. He almost whines as Dick pulls away. Tim wants to make a clever comment about needing more convincing but he's too dazzled to even try.] I...um...
[Dick chuckles warmly and brushes Tim's cheek, enjoying the flush] God, I love it when you do that. [He kisses Tim's cheek to feel the warmth of it on his lips].
[Tim closes his eyes, breathing a little roughly as he turns his head to press his lips to Dick's once more. The kiss is clumsy and rushed and he pulls away, stuttering] I'm sorry...I shouldn't have...I just... [He rests a tentative hand on Dick's arm, running his fingers over the soft fabric]
[Dick smiles into the kiss. When Tim pulls back, he squeezes his hand]. Hey, it's okay. I kissed you first, you know. That's a good sign I wouldn't mind getting kissed back.
