Some might call it a beautiful sunset. To Bass however, it was just that hour between evening and night, accompanied by a few shifting colors in the sky. He sighed softly, taking another bite out of his peach.
"Hey there, onii-chan!"
The sudden voice behind him annoyed him more than it startled him, and he looked up from his seat on the grass. "I'm not even going to ask how you found me."
"Silly Bass-kun." Kaito winked and plopped down beside him. "I can find you no matter where you are! I think I proved that when you moved."
"Whatever."
Sensing a difference in him, probably because he didn't fight back, Kaito gave him a curious look and a nudge with his elbow. "Hey, what's up? Something on your mind?"
"No." Bass looked at the fruit, nipping off the last pieces of the flesh from the pit.
"Bass, you're a horrible liar." Kaito's voice was flat, teasing, but his concerned look was back a moment later. "Come on bro, what's up?"
"It's--!" The robot's sharp voice echoed a little in the quiet park and he scoffed, turning his head away. His voice dropped down a tone. "It's nothing. So buzz off."
"It doesn't sound like nothing."
With a 'hmmph' sound being his only reply, Bass looked at the pit and turned it over in his fingers, aware of the magician's eyes on him the entire time. Doing his best to ignore him, he put the seed on the ground and cupped his hands over it; his eyes flashed a moment later, the normal red color changing to an earthy green as some sort of powers shifted to the forefront inside.
"Bass-kun?" Kaito looked from his hands to his face, eyebrows coming together in confusion. "What're you doing?"
"Shut it."
Falling silent, Kaito settled for staring down at his hands. Knowing pretty well what his "brother" was capable of, he wasn't surprised to see them glowing faintly now. However, he did get a surprise when Bass moved his hands back, a small, green sprout coming up out of the middle of the seed. The further the robot's hands moved, the more it stretched up, small leaves beginning to poke out and unfurl themselves.
It was one of those rare, rare times when Kaito's poker face slipped away completely and he gaped openly. "I... didn't know you could do that..."
"Plantman." Bass sighed slightly, keeping his hands hovering over the seedling for a moment before taking them away. It remained sitting on the ground, dimly lit by the setting sun. "I fought him a while back, and I've still got his powers..."
"...Apparently."
"Hmh." With that grunt, Bass leaned over the seedling, being careful to not let his shirt fall forward and hit it. Plunging his fingers straight into the ground, he dug out a chunk of earth and deposited the seed inside, almost completely covering it, with only the little shoot sticking up out of the dirt. He wiped his hands clean on his jeans as he stood up, turning to walk away.
Kaito glanced at the peach seed, then back at Bass as he hurried after him. Smiling slightly, guessing at his thoughts, he chuckled and patted his back with a wink. "Hey, maybe you can go around planting peach trees after you defeat Megaman. That'd give you purpose."
The look he got in response made him laugh hard, an echoing sound in the quiet corner of the park.
