Player: unspeakingly
Subject: Mikuru Asahina. (+ Kyon. Itsuki Koizumi, "romantic".)
Table: C. [ prompt table]
Prompt: 21) Obvious.
Notes: It's entirely Tamatsukitsuru's fault that all of these are turning out to be random plotless Itsuki/Mikuru drabbles, honest. And sob, this turned out to be more about Itsuki than Mikuru for most of it. /fail

It had all started off very subtle, really.

One day, Itsuki Koizumi had walked into the clubroom with a slightly more devious smile on his face than what he wore most of the time. Haruhi passed him up in favour of continuing to loudly explain her plan to exploit Mikuru for the Brigade's popularity, and Yuki's eyes never left her book, but Kyon and Mikuru shared an uneasy look and watched him carefully. He circled the table, pulled up a chair beside the redhead and sat down calmly, showing no signs of plotting yet.

And at first, it seemed like he really had no mischievous plan at all.

But Kyon made sure to keep his gaze on Itsuki, and sure enough, he finally noticed something. Namely, how often he was touching Mikuru.

They were things nobody else would find strange, or even pick up on; a touch on the shoulder, "accidentally" placing his hand over hers on the table, letting his fingers linger against the small of her back when he leant down to speak to her -- little things, completely unsuspicious things. Needless to say, Haruhi was too caught up in her brilliance to notice, and Yuki paid them no mind, but naturally, Kyon and Mikuru caught on. Itsuki would catch her hand to speak to her about something from their last science lesson, Mikuru would hesitantly and awkwardly hold a brief conversation with him, knowing that he was up to something, and all the while Kyon would be shooting jealous glares at the other boy over her shoulder.

Eventually, that wore down, and became something ordinary; something that both Mikuru and Kyon managed to adjust to.

So, Itsuki changed the game.

A few days passed and Itsuki had stopped all of his little touches; but then suddenly, it came up again, and both Kyon and Mikuru would have had to be blind not to see the next step of his plan.

He would stand strangely close behind her when she made tea, and when he let his hands hover just near her waist one time, Kyon ripped the SOS brochure he was holding in half. He reached around and over her when he needed to get something despite it being inconvenient for him, and Mikuru began to mysteriously trip over her own feet whenever Itsuki was standing next to her to catch her and hold her in his arms for just a bit too long. He'd started meeting Kyon's seething death-stares with a bit of a smug grin, and Mikuru was doing a terrible attempt at staying out of the crossfire. Clearly, he'd upped the risk factor, and was making his actions more blatant; more obvious, and a little more suspicious.

Mikuru and Kyon spoke about it walking down the hall to a Brigade meeting a week after it started happening, and were sure they had figured out Itsuki's game; the "Make Kyon Jealous Without Haruhi Knowing" game. And it was definitely working, because all Haruhi had noticed so far was Kyon's rapidly heightening agitation levels. Unfortunately, just as they began to work on a counter-plan, Itsuki came from the other direction, "tripped" onto Mikuru and sent them tumbling to the floor in a heap. Haruhi flung the door open and yelled at them to get their asses inside for an urgently important meeting before she gave them all a triple-penalty, and Mikuru and Kyon were left without any ideas on how to combat Itsuki's plot.

But again, it became a boring, old routine, and stopped at such a gradual pace that nobody really remembered it ever happening.

At least, until Itsuki decided he wanted to play again.

"... And since sci-fi anime are really popular right now, Mikuru-chan's going to play a sexy pilot who's fighting in her giant mecha to save her country-- no, her galaxy! From evil invading aliens from another universe! And she tragically falls in love with an enemy pilot and they have a fade-to-black sex scene!"

Kyon's arm slipped and his head hit the table. "W-wait, what? I don't think you can make Asahina-san star in a sex scene, much less in a school film, Haruhi!"

"Then it won't be a school film, idiot, we'll just sell it on the corner!" Haruhi waved him off and went back to writing her script. "Now, because she's a hopeless romantic, they'll have to do it on a huge silk bed, covered in rose petals and--"

He tuned back out with a heavy sigh and looked over at said "hopeless romantic", who was currently sleeping peacefully with her head nestled in her arms on the table. He couldn't help but smile a little, even with Haruhi shouting ridiculous sex details beside him.

All of a sudden, the Brigade door slammed open, and Itsuki strode in quickly, looking the most triumphant anyone had ever seen him. Mikuru shot up in surprise, dazed and tousled, and the poor girl hardly had time to compose herself before he abruptly leant over her, held her shoulders and kissed her hard. Her eyes snapped open and she turned bright red, wide awake now, and Kyon stood up so suddenly that his chair flipped over and clattered to the floor with a loud bang.

"Koizumi, what the hell are you doing?!"

He pulled away with a half-smirk, half-bright smile and simply looked the breathless Mikuru in the eyes, his expression giving away absolutely nothing. Kyon was shouting expletives and threats, Haruhi was ranting about how Itsuki was definitely going to be the forbidden love interest in her newest movie and how the make-out scene would earn them the most publicity in the whole school, Yuki was still reading her book and hadn't even blinked, and amidst all the confusion, Mikuru couldn't help offhandedly thinking how Itsuki had been a bit too obvious this time.

Maybe more than 'a bit', she corrected, seeing the victorious glint in his eye and the way his smug smirk only grew when Kyon reached over the table to grab at his tie. Still, she caught how Yuki was giving her a curious glance, and let her over-dramatised flailing kick in as per her image, reminding herself to be wary of Itsuki's games from now on.
