There was a small click as Conan closed the door behind him, watching the middle-aged man stuffing something in his pocket. The shrunken detective smirked and wordlessly moved closer to the suspicious acting man and leaned against a nearby wall, he’d give it a few seconds before saying anything. Casually, Shinichi check his watch and then looked down at the ground, ready to unleash his deductions on the individual.

“I thought it was you.” He stated. The man froze and turned to face him, a look of pure shock on his face.

“What do you mean little boy?” He asked, his voice just slightly on the nervous side. Conan offered the best detective glare he could muster and let out a sigh, making a show of his deductions.

“That’s the missing piece you’re trying to hide.” The murderer regarded Conan in a new light, but obviously was not ready to give in just yet.

“Oh? Missing piece? You have quite an imagination. Tell me kid, what is the missing piece?”

“Don’t start.” Conan’s tone had changed and this man was now facing the shrunken form of Kudo Shinichi. “The real ring is in that handkerchief, it’s cruel you’d use a woman’s wedding ring as a murder weapon.” The man’s face changed to an unreadable expression. “You exchanged the real wedding ring for a fake one with a poisoned tip on it, didn’t you? You had one specially made with a small tip on it to poke through the victim’s skin and therefore effectively poisoning the woman. The evidence is that ring in your pocket. The victim’s finger prints, along with yours should be there.”

The man looked like he might deny it but only closed his eyes and let out a sigh. He knew he was caught.

“That woman… she was seeing me behind her husband’s back.” He confessed. “We had plans to get married and she canceled last minute on me!” He suddenly grew louder as he remembered the reason he’d chosen to kill the woman.

“That doesn’t excuse what you did.” Shinichi stated, he never held pity for jilted lovers, in his eyes, they were the worst kind of murderers. The man smirked, looking at Conan with and causing the detective to tense up. “Oi…”

“No, maybe not, but you’re the only one to have figured it out.”

“Maybe right now, but Hakuba-no-niichan and Naoto-nii will catch onto you soon, if they haven’t already.” He offered innocently.

“I’ll have time to get rid of the evidence by then, and you.” Shinichi blinked at those words. ‘and him, huh?’ It was going to be one of those types of cases, was it? Before he could get his watch at the ready, however, the criminal had lunged at him and darted away. Damn, he was going to have to gain some ground and then take him out. He turned on his heal and ran for the door, unfortunately, the man got him first and flung him back against the wall. Conan hit the door with a loud thud, and landed on his ankle as he came back down, to make matters worse he came down on a pile of broken glass from a recent robbery. He hissed in pain as he tried to get back up. That man was rounding on him.

‘Now I’m mad.’ Shinichi thought angrily as he lifted his wrist to fire a sleeping dart as the guy’s hands gripped his small throat. He was out like a light as soon as the needle pricked him.

The door slammed open.

“Conan-kun!-“ Shinichi pushed the unconscious killer off of him and noticed the blonde detective that was supposed to be acting as his guardian today… oops. The blonde took one look at the room and let out a sigh, immediately deducing what must have happened. “If you had waited a few seconds to warn Naoto-kun and I, this wouldn’t have happened.”

“Cram it Hakuba.” Shinichi groaned, forcing himself to his feet, wincing as one leg had two or three shards of glass lodged into it and hurt to put any weight on. The blonde closed his eyes and bit back the comments he would have loved to say about now.
