I'm totally tempted to make this one canon. It's another "bit longer than a drabble" but I don't care xD

"Dammit. Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn!" Bass repeated the words to himself like a mantra as he marched down the sidewalk against the storm, each curse corresponding to another splash of water in his eyes. It had only started raining a few minutes ago but he was already soaked to the core, his clothes clinging to his body. Thunder pealed above, and the drencher's thick clouds made the early afternoon look more like the beginnings of nightfall. He always hated days like this. It wasn't as if the rain stood him any danger: in fact, after a certain experience with Kaito the robot had made sure he was more waterproof than ever. It was just that days like this were hell, and the water chilled him like it would anyone else.
Stopping short, he looked around in confusion, wondering what in the world had made him pause in this downpour. There was hardly another soul around, nearly everyone else all nice and cozy at home. Traffic was non-existent. There was nothing noteworthy that could have grabbed his attention like that...
And then he heard it. A weak, pitiful noise that was almost lost in the sound of the rain slamming against every hard surface around. Bass looked to one side where a dark alleyway was and, in an action that later made him wonder why he was being so curious, he walked inside.
"Alright, who the hell is in here??" He glanced around with a glower as he moved further into the dark alley, his eyes eventually falling on a lump on top of a stack of boxes. Something on the shape shifted, and two glowing dots were focused Bass' way.
"Mrew."
Bass stared at the small cat in confusion, looking up at the sky (and paying for it when he had to squint in the rain) then back at the animal, cautiously moving closer. When it continued to crouch there on the box, shivering, he reached a hand up towards it. The cat still didn't run, although it did recoil slightly when he rested his hand on its back.
"What the hell are you doing here?" His tone was sharp, but more curious than it was mean. "I thought you'd be smart enough to get out of the rain..."
"Mrew..." The cat tucked its nose back into its paws, shuddering, its soaked fur sticking up all over. Sighing, Bass folded his arms and glanced around, muttering "I can't believe I want to do this" under his breath.
A flash of light made the cat jump and it snapped its head up, pulling back in fright at the sight of the finned, shiny black being in front of it. It watched as he removed his helmet, placing it over the small stray so it was completely tucked inside. The initial fear passed when it realized that the helmet was keeping the rain off it, and it stared out the front.
"Hmh. You are a little guy, aren't you?" Bass smirked slightly and leaned back, folding his arms again. "Look, keep it. I'll just come back and get it when the storm's over." He walked away, his armor boots clanking against the sidewalk now to a slightly less brisk step than earlier.
"Mrow."
Bass stopped and looked down behind him, seeing the small cat slinking up to him, still huddled up close to itself from the cold. His expression soured and he pointed back to the alley. "No, shoo! I don't need a damn cat following me!" The feline, unperturbed, came right up to him and crouched on the sidewalk, watching him with large, golden eyes. He sighed sharply with a snarl at the end, glaring down at it in hopes that would make it go away.
No such luck.
"Fine." He bent down and grabbed it, pulling it up by the nape of the neck and dropping it into the crook of his arm. Returning to the alleyway to retrieve his gear, he flashed the cat a look. "You could have at least brought my helmet back." This was accompanied by a smirk, and the cat watched him put it back on. Closing its eyes, still shivering, it settled in for the walk home in the rain.
