Prompt: 006- Cleansed

"Hey! I want to say something to you, so get over here!"

The message left on Azula's cell phone surprised her-- she'd talked to Yuri quite often on the community, but they'd never kept phone contact before, or visited each other. She wasn't quite sure how she's expected to know exactly where "here" is, and she told her as much in her return call.

"Ugh. Fiiiine-- I'll just come over there, then. But we have to do it quickly, because I'm going to disappear soon."

That was another surprising thing. Disappearing was something that Yuri had always referred to as something to be avoided; the way she was talking now, it was almost as if it was something she'd... accepted.

She showed up about five minutes later, appearing suddenly in Lisa's living room. Azula just stood there, waiting for the explanation that she was sure would be coming.

"Hey," Yuri says again. "It's all way too long and boring to explain, so don't even ask! The details aren't really important now, anyway. But we all had a ceremony and we said goodbye, and I've fulfilled my wish. Since I'm pretty sure that means I'm going to be gone soon, I wanted to go around and say goodbye to some people. And you were one of them! So, goodbye."

Not really much of an explanation, at least in Azula's mind. Still, she decided to refrain from pressing. Maybe Yuri was right; maybe that wasn't really the important part. "So you're... moving on."

"Yup! I had to defeat some people and accept some things about life and death and heaven and God, but I think I'm finally done with all that now. Took me long enough, huh? At least I wasn't the slowest."

Azula leaned back against the wall, her eyes still on the other girl. "I suppose I'll say goodbye too, then. You were always interesting to talk to." She wouldn't say it, but she'd miss Yuri, at least a little bit. "So is that all, or are you meant to impart some piece of wisdom before you leave the afterlife forever? Are you going to tell me what I have to accept?"

Yuri snorted. "Are you kidding? You have to figure that out for yourself! And it's different for everyone, anyway. But since you're not dead yet, I don't think you have to worry about it too much. Just..." A pause; she turned just slightly more serious here. "Don't wait until it's too late. Okay?"

It's already too late. The thought came to Azula unbidden, and she almost said it out loud before stopping herself. "Understood."

"Good. See ya! ... Or not." And then Yuri was gone-- either having moved on to the next person on her list, or having disappeared entirely; Azula didn't know.

"... Hm." Opening the door to the porch, she stepped outside into the cold winter air, for once not caring about the fact that she wasn't wearing anything more than a sweater.

It's already too late.

Or maybe it wasn't.
