[RL with Zechs]

The evil fog was nothing but a memory for the people of Edge. at the moment, that was both a blessing and a curse, because the sun beating down was warm despite the fact that it was winter. Especially for the men labouring on the buildings, working to create more and better shelters for the people of the city.

"Whether it's common or not isn't the point," Zack insisted, shaking his head. "The fact that you're used to being hurt doesn't change the fact that I hurt you, and I could've killed you, and I'm supposed to be your ally. More or less." Now the grin returned, a tad sheepish as he rubbed at the back of his head. He had no active grudge against ShinRa as it was now, but he still wasn't quite certain where he stood with the Turks. Especially since Rufus persisted in his hostility towards Zack.

"Well, the best place to get anything edible is 7th Heaven, or so I hear," he said in answer to Zechs' question, a tad reluctantly. "But I'm, uh, kinda avoiding it. I'm not ready to face Tifa and Cloud just yet."

Arching a brow above the shades, Zechs quipped, "It is not a matter of injury. You continue to imply I would have met my death easily; I would refute this case. Yet the point is moot, for we are indeed if not allies, then certainly not enemies."

This was said with a calm, but unmistakable arrogance. Still only a mask, however, while he tried to assess the man whom his commander still considered a friend. An individual whom he was willing to feud with Rufus over, in all appearances. Zechs was ... unclear of what to make of that situation.

"I have met the lady Tifa and dined at that location before," Zechs offered, but added, "though she has forgotten the community now, as individuals do randomly and without warning. I doubt one so obviously a Turk would be welcome there, besides. Have you another suggestion?"

"You're probably right about that, though I'm more worried about her reaction to recognizing me," Zack said wryly. "We... didn't exactly part under good circumstances." The last time he'd seen her, she'd been cursing him out for being a SOLDIER because Sephiroth had killed her father. Then she'd nearly been killed, and had been through a great deal in the intervening years from what he understood. No, he didn't think that Tifa Lockheart remembered him fondly at all ( ... )

For now, Zechs held his tongue. Parting? For what little he knew for certain, those within this time who had not been informed otherwise would thing Zack was dead. And from the intelligence he was given, Cloud was the very individual the SOLDIER nearly died protecting. But Zechs was the last to criticize another for not admitting they were alive to their estranged companions.

He also hid a grimace. Ah, well, he had certainly had worse when working on the Martian stations. Zechs fell in easy step beside Zack, still scanning their surroundings. People tended to give him a wide berth because he was a Turk, but there was the occasional whackjob. Still, it was better than being on his Earth.

Zechs mentioned wryly, "One can only hope there would be no maladies upon Gaia which are immune to to the heat within boiling water. Their coffee will at least be safe."

Zack snorted. "Heh. You've never tried to drink coffee I made. Angeal always said that I must've somehow gotten poison mixed in with the coffee grounds or somethin'."

Like Zechs, Zack kept a constant eye on his surroundings, though his shades hid most of his alertness. To the casual eye he could have been any oblivious youth out for a stroll, though admittedly a much better muscled one than most. In fact he walked with the perfect balance of a warrior, ready to attack or defend on a moment's notice, and he didn't miss much of what went on around him. It was a habit acquired in Wutai and honed first by assassination attempts, and then by the time he'd spent on the run from ShinRa.
