So I went to the Dentist this morning... And as I'm sure my avid readers are already aware, I have major jaw issues, as well as a condition called "toureye" (no clue how to spell that, so I spelled it phonetically). Anyway, this makes it VERY painful and VERY difficult to get oral X-Rays. So they seriously took about 30 minutes just trying to get ( Read more... )

Scorpions glow under black light. If you're totally paranoid that the little bastards are gadding about your house turn on a black light and it should allay your fears, or indicate that you need an exterminator. Plenty of people here in Arizona get scorpion infestations, but remarkably I've never heard of anything really horrible coming of it other than it freaks people out and they have to get exterminators. However, since you are in Florida you have a lot less to worry about. You probably stomped on one of these guys http://www.ub.ntnu.no/scorpion-files/c_gracilis.php which are not very venomous. Or you might have squashed a vinegaroon http://www.whatsthatbug.com/scorps.html which doesn't look like a critter I'd like to meet, but apparently is quite harmless.

That's actually a pretty good idea! Do you know if ALL Scorpions glow in the black light? I know SOME do, but I wonder if all of them do? I would totally get a black light if that's the case.

Not all of them do, but black lights are pretty cheap, it still might be worth it.

Having an exterminator put a boundary around your house (and maybe treating your yard, but they'd just move in from the surroundings again) would be probably the most effective way of taking care of it, but that takes regular bimonthly or so treatment (I room with an exterminator so I picked up a few things ;)

I am fairly sure that all scorpions glow under black light. If you actually have a scorpion problem, you will see another one at some point in time and you can test it out. Even if you squish it first, it will still glow.
