I've been thinking on and off for the last couple of years that I'd quite like to be an MP.

But whenever I look into it, I hit a major stumbling block - To stand a realistic chance of getting elected, you have to join one of the big parties, and I just don't fit in with any of them. I think the Tories, Labour and the LibDems all have some good ideas and some shockingly bad ones. But there's no system in this country that allows you to mix and match and do your own thing - you have to pick one and toe the party line. And that sucks.

I think our politics would be much different and much improved if parties were less important and MPs could stand for what they each believe in. But whilst it is possible to stand as an independent, you're lucky if you get your deposit back.
