because i wasn't just going to post a facebook note for something i put over an hours work in to:

Think of 25 albums that had such a profound effect on you they changed your life or the way you looked at it. They sucked you in and took you over for days, weeks, months, years. These are the albums that you can use to identify time, places, people, emotions. These are the albums that no matter what they were thought of, they musically shaped your world. They stood up, they lasted, they mattered. They still matter, in some way (even if only in memory). So, post your 25, and send to another 25.

1. mc chris - Eating’s Not Cheating
I would have a hard time not including mc chris on this list. He's so unique and like, actually talented and cool, he has a concert coming up on my birthday in Ann Arbor. I’m pretty pumped. His lyrics are genius and his voice is one-of-a-kind, check him out.
Favorite Track: mc chris ownz, toothpick spliffs, stop time.

2. Outkast - Speakerboxx & The Love Below
These were basically my favorite cd’s from sophomore year of high school and onward, they might be the first CD I ever actually bought myself. I remember listening to them on many trips and many car rides, I still love OutKast, but certainly not to the extent I once did.
Favorite Track: Last Call, GhettoMusick, Tomb of the Boom, Roses

3. Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
I loved this band from the first time I ever saw the video for “Take Me Out” on TV at the Aven’s house. I think I went out and bought this CD the next day, I still really like this CD and listen to it to this day, I can kind of play some of their songs on guitar. They were also one of the first live bands I’ve ever seen.
Favorite Track: Take Me Out, This Fire, 40 ft.

4. Flogging Molly - Drunken Lullabies
First band I ever saw live, they put on a great show btw. It reminds me of Tony Hawk and sitting around the table during like freshman year and then how they got all popular and it was kind of weird. Their new cd Float was a nice growth for them, but I still like these old songs, and if they came on at a party I’d be so pumped.
Favorite Track: Drunken Lullabies, What’s Left of the Flag, Kilburn High Road

5. Incubus - Make Yourself
Nate would always play this in the morning on the way to school, and I always liked it, but they couldn’t be “my” band you know, they were Nate’s. One day I got over that and I’m not if could really be my favorite Incubus CD, I love all of them, this one just holds the most memories for me, and I do actually probably listen to this one the most.
Favorite Track: The Warmth, Privilege, Make Yourself, I Miss You

6. Jay-Z - The Black Album
Probably the rap CD I ever bought, mostly for 99 problems, because that song fucking rules (still), my copy is all scratched up now and it’s kind of sad, but I still listen to this album every now and then. There’s a reason Jay-Z is as revered as he is, he’s just so cool.
Favorite Track: 99 Problems, Change Clothes, My 1st Song

7. The Killers - Hot Fuss
Their first and still their best. I still listen to this CD and pretty much everything about it just makes sense. They were so new sounding when they came out and then like, turned into generic crap, I don’t get it. I still don’t think any band has really captured this sound as well as this CD did.
Favorite Track: Jenny Was a Friend of Mine, Andy You’re a Star, Change Your Mind

8. N.E.R.D - Fly or Die
First CD I ever really fell in love with. I used to be able to listen to this all day every day (still might be able to). Pharrell is a righteous producer, this CD basically had it all, even though I think their newest one is probably their best now.
Favorite Track: She Wants to Move, Maybe, The Way She Dances.

9. NiN - With Teeth
I know this is probably the lamest CD of theirs (his?) to choose but it was the first one I ever really got in to. Even though we were super far away, it was one of the most amazing concerts I’ve ever seen, I like that I got in to them when I did, this CD is still pretty good.
Favorite track- The Hand That Feeds, Sunspots, Right Where it Belongs.

10. Taking Back Sunday - Tell All Your Friends
This band started my like, year and a half turn towards all that post-hardcore bullish. I can still listen to and sing along with every song on this CD (is that sad?). I dunno, it’s the only CD from that part of my life that’s still on my iTunes, I just get embarrassed about it now.
Favorite Track: Timberwolves at New Jersey, Bike Scene, You’re So Last Summer

11. Tenacious D - Tenacious D
Got their DVD for Christmas one year and loved them ever since. Jack Black actually has a really good voice and well, Tenacious D RAWKSSSSSSS!!!1!
Favorite Track: Explosivo, City Hall, Wonderboy

12. Coldplay - X & Y
I just like Coldplay, and I don’t really have a problem admitting it, I’m mad I’ve never seen them live, and now it would probably be too expensive. This was the first CD of theirs I listened to on repeat and I just appreciate their talent and song-crafting, it reminds me of senior year and the summer after.
Favorite Track: X & Y, Talk, The Hardest Part

13. Beatles - Discography
Yeah, I know this doesn’t count but like, it should, it would be impossible for me to pick a favorite Beatle’s album or a favorite Beatle’s song, every single one is timeless and amazing. I will listen to them forever and beyond.
Favorite Track: Like I said, too difficult.

14. Death Cab for Cutie - Plans
They played on the same bill as Franz Ferdinand, it was both Shanna’s and mine favorite respective bands at the time, it was a really good concert. I still like Death Cab, maybe Postal Service more now, Ben Gibbard has some really inventive lyrics (maybe not the best, but at least inventive), and he’s fucking married to Zooey Deschanel, what a prick.
Favorite Track: Crooked Teeth, Soul Meets Body

15. Electric Six - Fire
They are such a unique band that I really wish more people listened to, they’re hilarious and they play good rock. It’s like if 80 bands were actually good. I guess everyone has heard Gay Bar, but like, they’re so much more than that!
Favorite Track: Naked Pictures, Danger! High Voltage, I’m The Bomb

16. Fall of Troy - Fall of Troy
I still like Fall of Troy, I think his guitar is amazing and their lyrics are actually pretty good if you can get past the screaming. I’d like to see them live because I would imagine it’s probably better than their CD’s, plus they can rock pretty hard.
Favorite Track: FCPITSGEPGEPGEP, Reassurance Rests in the Sea, I Just Got This Symphony Goin’

17. Jimi Hendrix - Axis: Bold as Love
Impossible to choose my favorite Jimi Album, especially including his live stuff, but I just chose this one because it has the most memorable songs for me. He is the master and the coolest; Jimi is my hero for sure.
Favorite Track: Castles Made of Sand, If 6 was 9, Bold as Love

18. Kanye West - College Dropout
I love Kanye and pretty much everything he does. I was the first person I knew that really loved him, and this CD reminds me of like, SOCOM 1 and hanging out at David’s. Every one of his CD’s have stood my test of time so far (I guess we’ll see in the future)
Favorite Track: Jesus Walks, Last Call, School Spirit

19. Mindless Self Indulgence- Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy
To basically rip off Shanna, “I don't actually sit and listen to this CD much anymore because I’ve kinda grown out of the MSI phase,” I remember loving this band seeing them live was a pretty cool experience, they remind me of WoW and high school, so young and silly.
Favorite Track: Bitches, I Hate Jimmy Page, Golden I

20. The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely
Not only do I love the title of the CD, because sometimes it seems to fit, but they are like, the most amazing band I’ve ever heard. Seeing them live was a transcendental experience and I literally was in awe of them, I fell in love with them soon after and they might be my favorite band now, if I had to pick one?
Favorite Track: The Switch and the Spur, Many Shades of Black, Carolina Drama

21. Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News
My favorite Modest Mouse CD (once again lame and cliché, deal with it). I love every song on it and it really got me into Modest Mouse as a band. I remember them reminding me of Franz Ferdinand at first, but since then they’ve (obviously) become very differentiated, still like them a lot.
Favorite Track: Bukowski, Ocean Breathes Salty, Float On

22. The Rapture - Pieces of the People We Love
The Rapture are just a great energy filled band, I love this CD and whenever I don’t know what to listen to I usually end up going with this, they’re so cool, and I want more from them! I hope someday they come out with another album.
Favorite Track: First Gear, The Devil, Live in Sunshine

23. MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
Wow, what a great fucking CD, they pretty much had me at hello. This CD reminds me of summer and relaxation. I haven’t listened to them a lot recently but I would imagine that will change in the summer again.
Favorite Track: Kids, Electric Feel, Of Moons Birds & Monsters

24. White Stripes - De Stijl
Hard to choose any White Stripes album, and this probably wouldn’t be my favorite, but whenever I listen to it, it has a tendency to place me somewhere. I love Jack White in general and most things related to him, hence the Raconteurs earlier, and the White Stripes are no different. They make me feel better about my own drumming skills.
Favorite Track: Hello Operator, Death Letter

25. The Cribs - Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever
The Cribs are an amazing band, and you would do yourself a huge favor by listening to them. This CD is like, refined rock and I can’t get enough of it, or them. Their earlier CD is fantastic as well, they opened for Franz Ferdinand and Death Cab, how weird is that? I think I’ve listened to them pretty steadily throughout my years, I would LOVE to see them headlining somewhere nearby
Favorite Track: Men’s Needs, I’m a Realist, Be Safe, Ancient History

I had a hard time thinking I’d fit 25 CD’s on here, but then when it came down to it I felt bad because I left so many out. These aren’t in any particular order, mostly just me scanning up and down my iTunes. Pretty rad, pretty rad.
