Iron Man 3. The Mandarin. Really? Really? Is George Lucas suddenly a creative consultant? Is this going to be an ironic racism (ugh) thing? I mean, I know there will be other villains but, bleh.

They set up the Mandarin in the first movie. In the comics, the Mandarin (actually a man of Mongolian descent) is a guy who found ten alien rings with special powers. It's not a race thing at all. I mean, it was in the 60s when he first showed up, but not anytime recently.

Also, where did you hear this?

He was half Chinese, half British, or fully Chinese, depending on the origin. Also, pretty much a stock yellow peril character when he was introduced, and depending on who's writing him, still.

Ben Kingsley will be playing him.

... it is truly a shame that asians (and many women) catch fire when their souls are stolen with film technology.

... or will they be doubling-down on classy by having Ben appear in yellowface?
