Sicily MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod

Sometime in the next couple weeks, my cat, Sicily, will have her 20th birthday. To illustrate just how long ago that was, she is named after the town in Northern Exposure. She's deaf and can only jump to about chair height (to keep her off the table we just push in all the chairs), but is otherwise doing pretty well. Her only real discomfort ( Read more... )

A cat for 20 years ?

I'm doomed!

She looks like she is doing well. 20 years?!?! That's longer than most people spend in school. Way longer than people spend at jobs - especially these days. And marriages.

How many people do you know who have known friends more than 20 years?

Ok - not a fair question.

How many other people do you know who have known people longer than 20 years AND still keep in touch?

Actually, adding the caveat that these people aren't related, I know none.

Hmmm. This is an interesting concept. I guess I've only known you about ten years longer that the cat has. Somehow that doesn't seem as spectacular as a twenty year old house pet. Granted, barring any unforeseen circumstances, I will eventually leave the cat in the dust, I guess we should consider what the cat-years vs human-years differential is. I'm equally impressed the cat's name is from Northern Exposure. That's impressive. That gives it reference. It's like when I re-watched Twin Peaks and felt like I had gone back in time a century. (They still had dial wall phones on Twin Peaks !)

Re: Twin Peaks - I know! When I was watching The A-Team, someone kidnapped Murdoch and they had to do a bunch of "drive to this restaurant by this time and answer the pay phone in the back." Seemed more archaic than riding a horse to get there.

I've a 15 year old cat who tussles with his younger siblings, four and three. He's a wild man and the daring of the bunch. He does not act old at all.

Your kitty looks pretty darn smug at her years and how well she has you trained. :)

Happy Birthday kitty... and aren't you due a celebratory Happy Birthday too soon?

Yes, tomorrow! Your kitty sounds like a ball of fun, even at 15!

20 years! I'm really going to have to have a plan for the newer furniture, aren't I.

(One that doesn't involve ripping out claws.)

I really should have named mine "damn cat" since I refer to her more often in that way than by her real name.

Re: icon-- isn't it what cats seem to be thinking most of the time?

Re: icon - yes, definitely! That or, "why aren't you following my will immediately?"
