So, a lot of my f-list is saying how we should all post more, so instead of paying bills like I should, here are some thoughts on recent tv (and SPN rewatch!).
I am a huge Sherlockian. However, not a diehard of canon and so enjoy all the interpretations out there, although Jeremy Brett still remains my favorite on screen incarnation.
Benedict is delightful as Sherlock as is Martin as Watson. So yeah, we're really awaiting with fervor the new season especially since we made a point to go by Speedy's this summer while in Britain. :)
I wouldn't say I enjoy ALL the interpretations out there (I've read some pretty awful books), but yes, I like seeing how people interpret the characters differently and expand on different elements of the canon. At a Holmes panel at DragonCon a few years ago (when the first Robert Downey movie had just come out), someone made the interesting point that Holmesians don't tend to get bent out of shape at new movies or shows. Unlike die hard Tolkien fans (who were complaining bitterly about the movies), Sherlock fans have already had 100+ years of adaptations, version, extensions, and basically fanfic and so are more flexible about things not being exactly canon.
I think the difference between Sherlock and Elementary is that one is updating the stories to modern day while the other brings the characters into a modern situation. Both are fascinating in their own ways.
I skipped over your Elementary comments, since I haven't yet watched my recording of that, but The Mentalist - eep! I was totally freaking out at the end, yelling at Lisbon NOT to go in the house without backup, and knowing something HORRIBLE was going to happen. And I just knew the poor lad was gonna end up dead, as soon as Lisbon noted he was at that address where she got the distress call
( ... )
Yeah, the ending -- eep! But you know that Lisbon can't actually be dead, so it lost a little of the peril for me. Although, what RJ can squeeze out of Jane with the threat of killing Lisbon will be interesting. I hope to have time to watch the second ep tonight.
I guess I totally missed that Ioan was on Castle, even though I'm sure I watched the ep. But then, I'm not as Ioan-attuned as you are. :) Let me know your thoughts on Elementary when you get there!

Agreed with the Castle comment. I did not care for either episodes so far.
The other shows I do not watch. :)
