If this is not the kind of post that interests you, feel free to move along...
I've been struggling the last 2 weeks trying to find motivation and time to go to Crossfit, but I finally prodded myself into going yesterday, and as soon as I walked in the door I was scanning my mind's calendar for the next chance to go. Had to pick up C today, but planning on tomorrow evening and Saturday! I just feel so much better, mentally/emotionally as well as physically, when I get my 2-3 times in per week. The habit is so easy to fall out of!
So, I'm going to try to post some more about what I'm doing in an attempt at more self-motivation. If you're bored reading about other people's exercise, please just skip!
So yesterday, we did bench presses (that 80# on my board is a lie, when I re-added the weights in my head it was only #70). Then we did a series of 5 movements, as many reps as you can for 1 min each, then rest for 1 min, then do it all 2 more times (3 rounds altogether). That was hard! You can see how your writing comes out after doing a couple rounds! And then we ran 1 mile. My goal has been to get a mile in under 11:00 (real runners out there, don't laugh), but I didn't even worry about that as I knew after all that (and not having done much of anything in 2 weeks), this was not going to be a PR time.
It was hot and I started feeling kinda pukey at the end of the run, but after I got over that I felt really good! (It also made me feel good to hear one of the really fit guys say, "I'm gonna go home and pass out now.") The workout tomorrow is a farewell WOD (with the military we have people leaving all the time, and they make up a WOD in honor of the person). It's called "Heart attack for Hartmann," and yeah, that's what it looks like!
Every summer they have the Crossfit Games (yes, it's basically an exercise competition - makes more sense than a lot of sports!). The idea of Crossfit is that you get fit across lots of different modalities: cardio, strength, power, body control, etc. The winners of the Games each year are crowned the "Fittest Man/Woman on Earth." The men's champion the last 3 years has been Rich Froning, from right here in TN. I love Rich, partly because he's apparently a really good guy, and a Christian (although he doesn't seem to talk about it much unless people ask), aaaannndd, he's pretty easy on the eyes. But it's also partly that "competency porn" thing, where it's just so fun to watch him being so awesome and strong and smart. He makes it look so easy. So I'm going to indulge in a little fan vid posting, a little bit different kind than usual! If you don't care about the awesomeness that is Rich, skip down to the 2 Regional videos.
Who is Rich Froning? (1:00) A Rogue commercial, but I love it cause it shows his house and TN stuff. And I love the music!
Two more short Rogue commercials I think are cute. Notice how he checks his watch! One PR at a Time:
Truck (0:15) &
Lawn (0:15)
Rich's Highlights from the 2013 championship (1:31)
And if you have a bit more time:
Rich on why he does it (2:07);
Rich and the women's champ visit ESPN (5:45)
There's even a
Fanvid made to a Christian song (3:35). I like this because it includes his epic rope-climb fail in the 2010 Games.
Now that you have that background, we move on the last week's Regionals, that are the qualifiers for the Games. Our Central East Region is stacked - not only Rich but the 2010 Champ, Graham Holberg, and Scott Panchik, who was 4th at the 2013 Games. The battle between Rich and Scott is epic! Keep in mind it's how you place in each workout that matters - times are just for bragging rights. I dare you to tell me this is not exciting!
Workout #3 (10:09) Start at 7:30 or so for just the exciting part.
Workout #4 (11:20) Start at 7:00 if you want.
So, I guess I got that out of my system!
