Bill walked into the front room feeling generally content. He had been poking around on the old Earth network from his PADD, but now he felt the need to toy tentatively with the replicator, perhaps see if he could force some Coke out of it.

Hmmm.

De was curled up on a couch, peering at his PADD. Bill presumed reading. He smiled at him as he walked past.

"Heya. What are you up to?"

"Oh," said De, glancing up from the PADD. "Hello."

He lowered the PADD slightly and shrugged. "Nothing much. Reading. Thinking."

Bill prodded the replicator. It seemed to glare at him defiantly. Well, he would see about that.

"So what's it like, thinking?"

"Complicated," De replied, with a wry smile.

He tilted his head as Bill messed with the replicator. "Are you really going to use that thing?" He snorted, and wrinkled his nose. "I wouldn't trust anything from it."
