Try to create a company or work freelance exclusively for non PT clients. Portuguese are held as innovative, hard working and resourceful (at least in my field). We don't get a project only "because you are cheaper not because you are better". IF you are a very competent professional THEN you will get hired. The money issue comes when you have two equal providers, ultimately money will talk...
I try to do the best, always. Not because I feel handicapped by not living in Northern Europe or North America, but because I reflect myself in my work.
