"Shit!" I almost vault over the bed, I would've if I'd had any energy. I just swear loudly instead. Good thing they didn't leave any guards outside of the door, otherwise we'd be in a tight spot right now.
We.
Jonas and me.
Well, I knew he was here, so it shouldn't be a surprise that he 'stopped by'. I mean, that's partly why I came here instead of just heading out into the great unknown or whatnot. But I didn't really expect him almost falling on top of me as soon as I got into the base.
"Jesus, Jonas, I am this close to passing out." I hold up a hand with the thumb and forefinger an inch apart. "Are you trying to kill me?"
"Well, the thought had occurred to me, but now really isn't the time."
I grin, I know she isn't sure if I'm joking or not, and to be honest, I'm not really sure either. Nothing personal to the little lady or anything, just well, I tend to get bored.
I step off the bed and circle the room a bit, it's predatory, but it's what I do.
"So, hanging out with the good guys, huh? What's the scam here Viv, hmmm?"
Hands still shaking slightly, although from the exhaustion more than anything else, I move back to the bed, and I would sit down, but that would put me at a lower eye-level than Jonas and I don't like looking up at him. Makes him seem more powerful than me and I hate that.
He wanders the room and I just stand there, hands in my pockets to calm the twitching. "No scam. God, could you get any more paranoid? Something blew up the Big Evil Law Firm. I figured I'd be safe here in case whatever it was decides to tie up loose ends."
I grin. "I'm not crossing over or anything, don't worry."
"Yeah, I heard about the big boom. I'd wonder what took them out, but honestly...I don't care. I am affliated with Wolfram & Hart, NOT the LA office, I just work out of their somewhere. I'll just get my orders from somewhere else, the Rome office, etc. Though, one can't help wonder, if whatever it was that took out the LA branch, what if it is looking to tie up loose ends."
I smile.
"I wonder how many casualties there were. Do you know? I need some good news."
She tells me about her allegiances. I nod.
"Well that's good Viv, I didn't want to have to kill you...and you know that I could."
I knew it disturbed them all at the office, lil ol me, a machine of death. How many Slayers had I bagged since the Sunnydale awakening? 10?
They were just another notch in the bedpost, as far as I was concerned.
"Speaking of Slayers, I hear they big one's here. Buffy Summers, what do you know about that?"
"Yeah, EVERYBODY. It just went boom." I motion with my hands. "Everything exploded."
I rest my chin on my hands and think to what Jonas was saying. He might be a psychotic, serial killer sociopath, but he was smart. No one could deny that. And he knew what he was talking about. I just didn't like making small talk with him. For obvious reasons. Blood and death doesn't really turn me on. Well, not death.
"Something they didn't expect," I say quietly. "Maybe something they thought was safe, and then it turned on them." And shrug. "I don't know what their top-secret projects were, and I didn't really care. The less you know, the less likely you are to get into trouble. I don't like trouble."
I smirk at his Senior Partners comment. "But why would they? I haven't heard anything about them being displeased with the LA office's work. It seems a bit drastic to me. I guess it's a good way to make an example, but still... I think it was something else."
"Baby, in our line of work...it is ALWAYS something else."
I open my mouth to say something else when I hear a knock at the edge of the store. Vivica and I exchange knowing glances, and like a cat, I push up off the floor, and bounce off the wall toward the ceiling.
Once there I find a vent pipe and grab onto it, and using my body's muscle mass, press myself flat against the ceiling. An old school hiding trick.
Vivica looks at me and then glances back to the door. That's when I hear the voice.
Miss? I'm Xander Harris, Buffy's in a meeting with the Initiative now, and she knows you're waiting to see her, so she sent me to come talk to you. I'm an associate of hers, and we wanted to see how we could help.
I quickly swing my legs up on the cot and run a hand through my hair. Thankfully, it's messy enough already so I don't have to do much to make it look like I was sleeping.
"Mmm?" I raise my head and blink towards the door of the store. "Oh, hi, um, Xander..." Bad timing, my friend, please leave. "I'm sorry, I was asleep. I'm exhausted." If he's polite, he'll leave. Go away and leave me alone because not only do I not want to talk to you, there's someone in here who would very easily kill you without a second thought.
"I'm fine for now, thanks," I call out weakly. "I think I'll just wait until Buffy's out of the meeting."
Oh, that's cool. You know, this place has a really cool food court. Would you be interested in getting some food? I've known a lot of Slayers in my day, so I would be interested to help you out, or at least keep you company until Buffy is free. This town is too creepy to be on your own.I hear his footsteps wander deeper into the room, evidently Viv didn't do a good enough job getting rid of him. Granted, I'd give her a chance. I wanted to ice this guy, but the fact is, I was in the opposition's stronghold and it didn't necessairly give me the advantage to kill when they didn't know I was here

God, the irony.

Get rid of him Viv. Get rid of him...
...or I will.
