Sneaking out.

Getting to the control room of the mall wasn't that difficult. Connor and I tried to keep up the pretense of being two bored teenagers wandering around an abandoned mall, totally normal, but it didn't even have a point. There was nobody around. Of course, Buffy and Xander and everyone was probably busy conferring, without me, as usual, and all the ( Read more... )

"I can see well enough," I shoot back defensively, but I know I can't see as well as Connor in the dark. Comes from being the child of two vampires, I guess. Although I'm the sister of a Slayer and a mystical gate-opening Key and I never got any special powers. Life just isn't fair.

Connor pulls me into a ventilation shaft and I take a moment to readjust. "Okay," I whisper, and start to crawl, trying to be quick and quiet at the same time. After a while, we come to the end of the tunnel and we see light. Taking a deep breath, I follow Connor as he kicks open the grate and we tumble out into the street, into the light.

The blowing of the fuse bought us just enough time. Thank god if there ever is one. I straighten and take out the gun. Just cradling its weight in my hand felt somewhat reassuring. "Where to now?" I glance at Connor, hoping he knows where he's going because I don't. I only got here this morning. And I'm getting into trouble already. Go me.

"I think the best we can do now is head back toward the wreckage of the hotel. That was where I picked up the potential scent of Eve, and that's where I think the best place to pick it back up would be. It makes sense, in a hunter/seeker kind of way."

I glance around in the outside. Trying to get my bearings.

"It won't be hard to find again, I remember the direction we travelled when we returned this afternoon, it's just that it might take some time...as I was in a jeep today, and we are on foot now."

The thought had crossed my mind that we might need to heist a vehicle, but truth be told, I didn't want us to be more criminal than we already were, and as long as we steered clear of zombies on the scale I encountered them today, I was hoping we'd be ok.

That was a lot of ifs.

Good Connor, I hope you're right.

"Makes sense." I nod, shifting my weight from foot to foot. Standing outside of the safety base with only a gun and a teenage boy, although he's got superpowers, doesn't exactly make me feel safe when we're in the middle of zombieland.

"Alright, so let's go, fast," I hop slightly in place, restless. I don't like it out here. It's that zombie vibe. I might look immature and impatient, but in situations like these, I need to move. Not that I don't trust Connor. I just don't trust this place.

The faster we run, the faster we'll be there, and the faster we'll be back. If we find Eve, we'll have our alibi... if we don't, well, we'll think about that later.
