I follow Connor to the courtyard, he seems to know where it is or maybe he can just smell Eve's trail. It's kind of creepy, especially since he's human and not a vampire so it's weirder on a human. But also helpful. And I don't really mind. I'm used to all sorts of weird.
Except the kind that we find in the courtyard.
We creep up to the doors, and peer around them. Just barely, so we can't be seen. And there are zombies. Everywhere. Just milling around.
"Shit." I think I've sworn more in the past hour than I have in my entire life, but there's good reason for it. "We're never getting through them now."
And it looks like we'll have to, because in the middle of the courtyard sits a small, feminine figure. Is that her? I don't know what she looks like. But... why aren't the zombies attacking her? What is she, like, the zombie queen or something?
I hear Dawn's comment, and she's right. It would be difficult to get through the zombies, and yet...I can't respond. I look through the thick of them, and there, sitting on the ground of the courtyard gazing up at the sky as if nothing is occuring is Eve

"Oh god." Up shit creek, that's where we are. But it wasn't like we could've known. "Oh crap." Definitely without a paddle. And while I do have an extra clip for the gun, I don't know that it'll be enough unless I aim really really well and blow their heads off every time.
"So she can run into a huge crowd of zombies and be totally safe," I whisper slowly, staring at Connor, wide-eyed. "From them AND from us. And we can't follow. Can't catch her."
I glance back out there. "... they can sense us." They don't need to see us. They can FEEL us.
"Oh fuck."
I think we're out of options right about now. It's either shoot or be shot, or in this case, be ripped to pieces and eaten.
I hear Dawn remove the gun from its holster on her thigh, and I speak out of the corner of my mouth:
"Aim for the head, you can only stop Zombies by dismember the bodies or severing the brain stem."
I pull the blade I brought loose from my hip holster.
"I know you're probably perfectly capable with that weapon, and I trust you...but stick by me, as I'm the one with the super strength here, I'll deflect as many as I can myself...any I miss..."
I turn and look at her.
"...shoot to kill."
I raise my weapon in fighting stance.
"Oh, and Dawn? If you see that they get me...if they take me all at once and they start eating me, do me a favor."
I breathe in.
"Shoot me before I die. I don't want to be one of them."
I rush forward and sink my blade into the nearest advancing dead, ripping it outward and watching its head collapse to the ground.
As I turn to kick out into the next one, I yell out:
I swallow, hard, 'cause my throat seems really dry all of a sudden. She wants to be with us. She trusts us. And we're gonna present her to Buffy and Riley and the rest. I mean, she destroyed an entire town... but I still kinda feel like I'd be betraying her.
But then again, I guess we're not really lying 'cause she really would be safer with us. She's safe, we get our information... mutual benefit, right?
I take out the gun and hold it in both hands in front of me. With Eve attached to Connor, his reaction might be slower if anything jumps out at us and I just want to feel safer. That's all anyone wants, isn't it?
With a nod to Connor, I start moving out of the courtyard.

There seems to be silent communication.
We got our desired prize, there was no reason to stay in the unprotected city any longer.
It's time to take Eve back to the base.
