- So we got there, unpacked our stuff and pretty much headed off to Stone Circle straight away. It's a big field with a mini Stonehenge. Lots of fires, lots of drinking and lots of fun to be had.
- So I had a magic mushroom or two, because Mike had some. Never done anything that strong before..... good thing I only had a little bit. I had just one hallucination. While I was peeing into a bush, the shape of the bush in front of me resembled a young naked couple. As the wind was blowing, the bush was shifting back and forth. I thought this couple were going to grab me to have sex with them. It was rather freaky. For the rest of the evening, I acted very drunk, yet had perfect vision and balance. Must've been the 'shrooms!
- Raiiin! Woke up in the morning hearing really loud thunder and seeing mini puddles in my tent. Luckily, we were pitched on higher ground and didn't suffer the same fate as others did.
- Stage-finding was fun. Mike and I spent an hour or so looking for a tent that was meant to have open mic sessions. Would've been awesome to play. When I finally found it (Mike eventually gave up), I found out that they were cancelled. Bummer.
- Martha Tilston played after the intended open mic sessions. I caught her supporting Nick Harper last year back in the good ol' Musician. She was really cute, sweet, sexy and talented back then and she still is today.
- Willy Mason. Spunk spunk spunkeroo. Absolutely awesome. Great crowd too..... not only singing along with the choruses of Oxygen (and pretty much every other song), but the verses as well! This kid has some serious talent!
- Hayseed Dixie. Perhaps my highlight. Hearing a hillbilly folk band cover AC/DC, Motorhead and Outkast is just too fucking brilliant. They even performed that Deliverance song! Genius!
- Martha Wainwright. Martin introduced me to this lass only recently, with a song called Bloody Motherfucking Asshole. One of the best songs lyrically I have even known (
see here for proof) and a catchy tune to boot. I actually caught her twice, she played two different stages on consecutive days..... was super.
- Ozric Tentacles. I went with Mike for this one. A band he loves who are like an instrumental Dream Theater, Secret Chiefs III and Marillion combined. Very good stuff.
- Coldplay. I only caught half of their set, unfortunately missing The Scientist (my favourite song of theirs). Was miles back as well. Yellow was really good though.
- Another random highlight was Mike in the mud. Not interested in investing in a pair of wellies, Mike went around in just his shoes. James let him borrow his nice dinner jacket, so Mike really had to make sure not to fall over. It got to the point where he slipped and grabbed onto some chav dude to stop himself from falling. It was hilarious..... would've been funny if he fell and took the chav with him!
- Van Morrison and Brian Wilson. Only briefly caught these two. The former played a lovely version of Brown Eyed Girl and the latter performed a back catalogue of Beach Boys hits. I'm not a fan of them, so I wasn't too fussed.
- Rufus Wainwright. Brother of Martha, a really camp guy with an incredible singing voice. Does a great cover of Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah among a number of other tunes. His little sister even joined him for a number as well!
- Would've seen Ryan Adams, but he had to pull out due to illness. The big shit.
- Headed back with James in his car on Sunday night (instead of getting a train the next day) and got back at 3am. Having a shower never felt so good!
Sounds like I didn't see too many acts? That's because the weekend involved a lot of walking around and exploring, at a snail's pace too (no thanks to the mud!) So that's my advice to anyone interested in going in 2007 or after..... it's difficult to get around, so go for the atmosphere and not necessarily the live music.
On a different note, these photos were taken the night I met Lynsey in Sugarhouse.
Lynsey is the lass in the middle. On the left is Hannah and on the right is Katherine. The latter is the one who we think is now an item with Martin. Wahey!
The two of us. Drunk as. Lyns is pouty as too.
Best photo ever. Fuck knows what Martin's doing. Crazy Frog? Answers on a postcard.
Tomorrow, my parents will be going to Spain for a week. Free houses always rock. Anyone is welcome down to pay a visit if they are bored. Spare bed and everythin'!
Hoping to start sorting out recording soon, so expect to see a fantastical return of the Recording Diaries. Hurrah!
