Is your father just one that is a slacker when it comes to communication, or there's something that your sister and thus her family has a dislike towards him that caused the rift? If there was a rift, I could see why it's best to let lying dogs lie.. but eh. Some people try to cherish family connections, even if it's late to do so.

I hear ya on that last paragraph. One of my uncles tries to do the same thing three of his kids, who are now adults. It's kind of sad to me, but also kind of ignorant, you know? You just can't undo some things and it's better to be thankful for what you've got right now.
