As I mentioned in a reply to another comment above, I was aiming more generally for a feminine power, divine yet still connected to earth. I went with 'Mother of God' because it fit the current mythology, but Mother Earth, Mother Nature, Goddess, etc., all fit as well, so your interpretation was essentially what I was going for. Woo-hoo!

As for the God issue, all that you've said is how I feel as well. I just can't get past the idea that they've taken the mythology too far and too explicitly to be able to have a satisfying ending with the God they've created. I feel like they're going to have wank it hard to get an outcome with a God character in a positive life, and then it would be contrived, horribly affected and just plain bad writing. But, I'm crossing my fingers.

I guess that that's the thing about fanfic: Its fundamental purpose is to fix canon, to step in and change it or add to it where it fails. It's like our boys need so much salvation right now that we all have to pitch in. ;)
