[Fic] Bradley/Colin - The warmth in your eyes swept me into your arms

Dec 14, 2009 23:04

I'm actually not sure if I'm happy with this, it's not the best thing I've ever written; but whatever! I'm gonna post it anyway XD

Title: The warmth in your eyes swept me into your arms
Author: slowdead
Pairing: Bradley/Colin (Merlin RPS)
Rating: PG-13
Genre: AU!! Fluffy Christmas!fic
Summary: Bradley doesn’t really know a lot about Colin Morgan.
Disclaimer: This never ever happened, it’s AU and completely made up. I’m not earning any money with this.
Notes: First of all: It's never too early for Christmas fic! Second: I don’t even know where the plot went, it’s non-existent like it is in most of my fics. This was also actually supposed to be something else, but then it got a life of it’s own and decided: no, I’m turning into schmoopy Christmas fic. And so I just let it be. Thirdly: Title is from the song "Winter Winds" by the awesome Mumford and Sons.

Bradley doesn’t really know a lot about Colin Morgan.

He knows his name, for one, and he knows Colin always sits somewhere in the middle of the classroom. He never sits all the way at the back, nor does he ever sit all the way at the front. Bradley doesn’t really know why he knows this, but he figures that somehow it says a lot about Colin. He’s just not sure what it says. He also knows that Colin never really goes anywhere without a book, preferably a big one; and all the girls in their class think he’s adorable.

To Bradley’s dismay it was pretty much love at first sight. He was just in denial about it for a while.

The first time they talk it’s kind of an accident. Bradley has no idea he’s actually going to say something until he’s opened his mouth and the Hello has already escaped his lips.

And suddenly they’re having an actual conversation. It’s all just a lot simpler than Bradley imagined it would be. Not that Bradley often imagines what it would be like to talk to Colin; it’s just that sometimes he looks over at where Colin’s sitting and he catches himself wondering what Colin’s like and if maybe they could get along.

Bradley is (in general) pretty good at talking to people. New people, old friends he hasn’t seen in a while, his great-aunt, whoever. For some reason though he’d always thought him and Colin just wouldn’t find anything to talk about. But then apparently they do (they’re in the same class after all,) and before Bradley can even process that they’re having a conversation the class is starting and Colin is wandering off again; (to sit somewhere in the middle of the classroom.)

From then on Bradley’s feet sometimes take him over to where Colin’s standing, and then his mouth decides to start talking and sometimes it just feels like this bonding (or whatever it is they’re doing,) is happening to Bradley without him having any control over the situation.

And sometimes Colin looks at Bradley, and smiles so brightly and honest that Bradley’s kind of glad that his feet and mouth work without his cooperation. He’s pretty sure that his auto-pilot is the only thing saving him from his knees giving out and falling (face first) into a desk.

Bradley doesn’t realize it’s always him going to Colin until Colin, one morning, comes to greet him first. It’s cold outside, considering it’s only September, and Colin is wearing a beanie that covers the tips of his ears.

“Why are you smiling like that?” Colin asks, looking at Bradley a little suspiciously.

“Can’t a guy just sit here and smile anymore?”

“It’s not just a smile,” Colin informs him, “You look like you’re off to kill Batman.”

And Bradley doesn’t even know what that means as he hasn’t read a single comic book in his life, but he doesn’t mind. He’s just happy that Colin’s there, smiling too. And if he just got insulted he’s just grateful he didn’t understand it.

There’s this girl. She’s pretty tall for a girl, (but still a lot shorter than Bradley,) and she has this black hair and these dark eyes. Bradley doesn’t like her. Her piercings make her look vicious and older than she is. Her voice is too high and Bradley gets this pounding headache whenever he has to talk to her for too long. And sometimes he does have to talk to her, since she’s always hanging around Colin.

Bradley doesn’t think he dislikes her just because of that though, he figures the long list of things about her he doesn’t like is enough proof. But he can’t deny the way his chest does this weird clenching thing whenever she runs up to Colin and puts her arms around his neck.

Bradley kind of stay away from them for a little while. October is such a shitty month anyway, and it’s nobody’s fault really that he’s walking around sulking constantly.
Except Bradley thinks that maybe it’s Colin’s fault, just a little; and maybe he should even be mad at Colin for making him question things, question himself. One day he even thinks about going up to Colin and asking him where he got the right to come in his life and then mess it all up.
But then Bradley remember that it were his traitorous feet that brought him to Colin in the first place, and that him and Colin really aren’t so close that he can go up to him and tell him things like that; possibly freak him out.

But then it’s Bradley’s birthday and Colin gives him a mix tape. They haven’t really talked in weeks and suddenly Colin’s standing there, smiling and handing him over a CD wrapped, with a blue bow on top and everything. And Colin actually remembered his birthday.

Bradley doesn’t even say Thank You, he just says: “Sorry,” and smiles crookedly. Colin just laughs and shakes his head, tells him: “Just listen to it, okay?” and “Don’t be a stranger, James.”

“You have the worst taste in music. Like ever. This playlist is worse than the collection of CDs my mum has at home.”

They’re lying on the patch of grass outside of the university, listening to Colin's Ipod. Class is about to start in five minutes but Bradley doesn’t really want to get up. He likes it there, they’re lying close enough that he doesn't even notices the cold wind. Bradley’s content;

Even if he hast to listen to this music.

Colin chuckles and elbows him in the side. “You liked that CD I gave you for your birthday though.”

Bradley smiles. “You just got lucky there, mate. This, however, is crap. It’s like you didn’t even put any effort in this.” Bradley says, “I haven’t even heard of any of these bands before.”

“That’s why it’s called alternative, it’s for the alternative types.”

“I can be alternative.”

Colin snorts. Bradley just hums.

“Class is starting in like,” Colin checks his watch, “Three minutes.”

They just lie there in silence another couple of moments before Bradley asks: “Want to go catch a movie instead?”

Coin’s flat is very Colinly, Bradley thinks. He puts his coat and bag on the table, just like Colin told him to.

It’s not really cluttered, just a little like an organized mess. It’s still a pretty sweet set up Colin’s got going on here. Bradley has roommates. Loud and obnoxious roommates; and Bradley likes them just fine but he wouldn’t want to take Colin home to them too often.

“It has to be here somewhere.” Colin says as he goes through a stack of DVDs and CDs. He smiles triumphantly as he finds the DVD Bradley gave him three days earlier.

“So did you like it then?” Bradley asks.

“Uhm no, not really.” Colin smiles.

Bradley smirks, smug. "Told you their humor was too sophisticated for you."

They spend that afternoon watching Colin’s movies and Bradley doesn’t even mind that he doesn’t even like them. Watching Colin flail around, trying to explain the ending even before the movie’s half way through and seeing him mouth along is worth it. Plus Colin’s flat has this homey feeling to it Bradley’s pretty sure he could get used to.

It turns out that Bradley fits into Colin’s apartment quite perfectly. Soon he has his own place on the couch, his own mug; and when his books start going missing he calls Colin just to be informed that his books (“and your scarf too, if you haven’t noticed it's missing yet,”) are all at Colin’s place. And so Colin creates this spot on top of his dresser where he puts all the things Bradley forgets at his place; or the things he leaves there intentionally (like an umbrella and a pair of gloves.) Bradley doesn’t think he’s ever had his own spot in a friend’s house before.

They’re out Christmas shopping and Bradley’s just given a whole speech on why peanut butter should always have little pieces of peanut in it. Colin had just scrunched up his nose and said peanut butter should be banned from the world.

And it’s the way he said it, Bradley reasons, and the way he scrunched up his nose. He looked so ridiculous; but Bradley's never wanted to kiss anyone more in his entire life than he wants to kiss Colin. And so he does. Plain peanut butter in his left hand, extra crunchy in his right, and he’s leaning up, kissing Colin right there for the whole supermarket to see.

When he pulls back he feels embarrassed, like his skin is too tight somehow. “Sometimes it’s like my mouth has a mind of its own.” He mumbles.

Colin just laughs and shakes his head as he leans in; he kisses back.

Bradley finds out a lot of things after that. He finds out how he likes the way Colin’s body fits against his when they’re lying on Colin’s couch. How he likes licking his way into Colin’s mouth and how he likes the way Colin’s hands feel on his back, under his shirt.

He likes kissing up Colin’s neck and he likes kissing the tips of his ears. He likes it when Colin kisses him hello and he likes kissing him goodbye. (Although a kiss hello is always a little sweeter than a kiss goodbye.)

He likes the way Colin blushes, and he never noticed before how often he does. It always starts in his neck and creeps up and up until it reaches the tips of his ears and Bradley is so done for.

Even more of Bradley’s stuff starts finding its way to Colin’s apartment after that; some of his cloths, his CDs, more and more of his school stuff and a toothbrush. Colin always smiles as he clears out more and more space for Bradley to start filling, and Bradley fills it willingly.

It isn’t until one day Colin goes grocery shopping and Bradley stays in his flat to play some video games that he realizes just how much time he’s been spending there. He tries asking Colin if he minds, if he should go home again; but once again his feet and mouth are unwilling to cooperate and instead of starting the conversation they run him up to Colin and kiss him until he’s forgotten all about his concerns.

“What are you listening to?”

“The First Noelle.” Bradley shrugs.

“Yeah but, is that… is that Elvis?”

Colin looks at him like he just torched the Christmas tree they put up last night and Bradley quickly closes his laptop. “I just…” he starts, but Colin’s already rummaging through a pile of CDs and pulling out a Christmas compilation. Colin smirks as the room starts filling with Christmas music and he straddles Bradley’s lap. Bradley just nods and says: “Yeah, yeah… let’s listen to that.”

Colin gives Bradley a key chain and a key to his apartment for Christmas, Bradley steps out of the apartment and makes Colin lock the door before he opens it again with his key; he's ridiculously happy. Bradley gets Colin a scarf, fingers lingering on Colin’s neck as he puts it on. They watch almost all Christmas movies they can think off and fall asleep on the couch, all tangled up.

Colin makes him pancakes for breakfast and Bradley just can’t stop grinning.

“You’re so housewife-y with your apron on.” And it’s difficult to talk with that grin.

"Shut up," Colin says, but he's smiling too.

They pass by Colin’s mum that afternoon and she feeds them each two slices of pie. Bradley likes Colin’s mother a lot, and for a moment he’s filled with homesickness, can’t wait to see his family in January.

Colin gets a ridiculous Christmas sweater from his mother. It’s too big and green and has all these reindeer on it, but Colin actually likes it and wears it for the rest of the day. Bradley’s chest clenches painfully and for a moment he isn’t sure of anything anymore except the fact that he’s never wanted anyone as badly as he wants Colin.

Bradley goes home that night, he ran out of clean underwear two days ago and he almost forgot what his roommates look like. His friends tell him he’s never around anymore but they forgive him when he goes out drinking with them. It’s nice because he’s still used to the way the alcohol burns his throat, he's still used to the way his friends yell and punch him in the arm. But on the other hand it still feels like he forgot how to be this Bradley. He doesn't even particularly like this Bradley.

He’s hung over when he goes back to Colin the next morning, he uses the key Colin gave him.

Colin’s sitting on the couch in that Christmas sweater, eating cereal and watching Home Alone, he smiles and milk dribbles over his chin. “Had fun?”

“No,” Bradley says, honestly.

He takes Colin’s bowl of cereal and puts it down on the table before stretching out in the couch, pulling Colin down with him.

“How come?” Colin asks as he noses Bradley’s neck, “Miss me too much I bet.”

“Yeah,” Bradley says, doesn’t really think about it until it’s said and then he doesn't really want to take it back anymore.

"What's up with you?" Colin asks, softly pulling at the hairs on the back of Bradley's neck.

Bradley noses the side of Colin's neck, doesn't really look up at him as he says: "I think I love you."

Colin laughs. It's a happy sound and Bradley smiles at the way Colin's hands cling to the back of his neck tighter.

Bradley doesn't tell him about the suitcases full of clothes and stuff in the entry hall. Colin doesn't say anything either as he empties out half of his closet for Bradley to fill, he just smiles. And Bradley, in return, smiles while he fills all the empty spaces with his own stuff.

Bradley remembers that they had vague plans to go out on New Year’s Eve. He wants to stay in though, and so keeps distracting Colin, kissing the small of Colin's back when he tries to get out of bed that morning. It’s seven PM and they’re still in their sweats; Bradley guesses they’re staying in, he smiles; smug.

Colin makes them pancakes again, enough to probably feed the whole building but they still eat all of them. They’re full and content after that, and they just can’t keep their hands off of each other. Bradley’s surprised they make it to the bed with the way they can barely let go long enough to breathe, let alone navigate their way from the kitchen to Colin’s bedroom. Their bedroom.

They manage, somehow, and Bradley crawls in between Colin’s legs, sucking Colin’s fingers in his mouth one by one, watching the way Colin’s pupil’s dilate and loving the way his breath hitches in his throat. Bradley leans down and whispers: “You taste like maple-syrup,” in Colin’s ear.

Colin’s chest trembles with laughter and Bradley grins back at him.

They have sex like that, laughing and grinning and it’s completely messy but that’s how Bradley likes it best, how he knows Colin likes it too.

Bradley wakes Colin up January first by kissing bruises into his neck until he’s squirming and arching up. Bradley stops abusing the soft skin long enough to sing Happy birthday in Colin’s ear, soft and slow.

“They say that whatever it is you’re doing at midnight, on new year’s eve, that that’s a pretty good preview of what your year’s going to look like.” Colin says later, after he's eaten the birthday cake Bradley improvised.

“So I’m gonna spend 2010 having sex with you?” Bradley asks.

“I think we were knocked out by midnight," Colin smirks, "So I’m guessing we’ll be sleeping most of the new year away.”

“That’s fine,” Bradley shrugs, “As long as I’m sleeping next to you.”
