Xmas Loot 2008

Jan 05, 2009 23:56

In keeping with tradition.

Taken 12/25, after presents and coffee but before dinner. Note the pimp robe and slippers.

- Iron Man (2-disc, widescreen) and The Dark Knight (2-disc, widescreen) - from Ryker and Josh, my kid brothers.
- Fallout 3 - From Laurel's parents.
- 500 GB WD Passport USB drive - From Laurel, though I didn't deserve it.
- 3 Bags of Coffee from Unseen Bean - From Laurel. The Unseen Bean is a local shop run by a man who is legally blind, and roasts by smell. His coffee is dark and fantastic.
- 8 Different Types of Razors - From Laurel. As I've become taken with the safety-blade shaving, I've been curious to expand my blade testing. West Coast Shaving offers a multi-pack for such testing, and Laurel got me one. Blades from Merkur, Derby, Crystal, Gillette, Feather, BIC, Personna, and another I can't read are represented. She wrapped each individually and hid them in my stocking, meaning that this year my stocking contained CANDY and RAZOR BLADES.
- Tinysaur - From Laurel. It's a T-Rex skeleton the size of a quarter. Detailed here.
- Candy - From Laurel, entirely, and from the stocking. Chocolate Orange, Coins, Rocky Road minis, 2x Nerds, Yogurt Raisins, Bacon Mints, and a set of Guns don't kill people, people with Mustaches kill people mints.
- Orange - Obligatory. From Santa.
- Voodoo-doll keychain - From my roommate Lori. Kinda Sackboy-ish. Neat!
- Survival Kit - From Laurel. MANLY.
- Xmas Cards - From my Aunt/Uncle, my Grandmother, and my parents.
- Gift card and Cash - Grandmother and my parents, respectively.
NOT PICTURED - A Yankee Candle from Chuck and Carol. It smells like someone jacked-off a cinnamon-stick into a bar of soap. We're not sure what to do with it.

Taken 1/05/09, after getting back from vacation.

- Grand Mariner - From Dane and Hanna. Left in original "wrapping", save that I tied the bow more neatly. Or at all.
- Candy - From Laurel's parents in my 2nd stocking down in FL. 2x Ghirardelli Mint squares, 2x Ghirardelli Caramel squares, various Lindt chocolates, several chocolates from Italy. A chocolate Cointreau bottle.
- Pencil - From Laurel's parents. From Italy. Really pretty - sort of peacock-ish, and it was likely hand-painted.
- Bear Ornament - From Laurel, in keeping with the annual "Nick gets a bear ornament" tradition.
- African Good Luck Spirit Ornament - From Laurel's Parents, and thus Ghana.
- Beaded Lizard Ornament - From Laurel's Parents, and thus Ghana.
- Misc Crushed Glass-bead keychain-things - From Laurel's Parents, and thus Ghana.
- Black Lab Ornament - From Laurel. Not quite an accurate representation of Lita, but a little white paint dry-brushed onto the muzzle will help.
- Mana Potion Energy Shot - From Max. One was given to each member of the 6-person gaming group, but thus far only Max and Joey have braved them. They both claim to have "felt them working in their veins", so I doubt I will ever try mine. 6667% of your daily B12 in 1.67 oz!
- Yemenese Traditional Knife - From Laurel's Sister, and thus Yemen. Not a super high-quality blade by ANY means, but it's impressively made, decorated in authentic parts (like goat skin!), and neat.
- Length of Colored Cloth - From Laurel's Parents, and probably Ghana. Not sure what to do with it yet, but it does look like me.
- Greeting Card and Wedding Photo - From Justin and Kristin, who got married recently!
- Greeting Card and Cash - From Rick, Poucette, Steph and Christine, Laurel's uncle/aunt/and cousins. "Our" type of people, and a blast to hang out with.
- Fully Paid trip to Disneyworld, with a 6-night stay in the Grand Floridian, 7-day Park Hopper Pass to all 4 parks (+1 fun!), a Cirque du Solei show, and 5 excellent meals (including a 5-star 7-course meal with wine paring) - From Laurel's aunt Kim, whom I'm pretty sure now owns at least the first 3 children I'll ever produce. The trip was ridiculously fantastic and I had a great time, despite being forced to wear a rather tiny set of mouse-ears.

Not a bad year, all told. Laurel and I opened gifts on Xmas morning in front of our tree, drinking coffee and eating Blueberry muffins with Lita. We played with her after, cleaned up and packed, then had a quiet dinner with our friends Dane and Hanna. We went to Florida the next day to spend it with Laurel's 14-person family, and left there on 1/1 to come back to CO. Other than coming home to find that the 80+ MPH wind in Boulder had blown down a mighty section of our fence (Lita was, thankfully, kenneled), it was a pretty damn fine holiday and way to end the year.

How was yours?
