The Runaway Train

Last night I finished "reading" (listening) to the audio book "The Runaway Train" as read by Matt Smith. This little posty is my thoughts about it, both from a Who fan, a Matt Smith fangirl, and a rabid Amy/Eleven shipper.

So yes, spoilers, if you haven't listened to the book. It's floating around on youtube, so feel free to check it out there.

Let's start with Matt Smith. OMG XD His southern accent makes me giggle. I love his voice, period, so hearing him do another accent was downright wonderful. Also, the Doctor says "Naughty" and I had to pause the book because I had doubled over in laughter.

Granted, the contex was "No! No guns! Naughty!" or something to that extent.

Also, Matt Smith still does his man-voice when reading for Amy. Bahah! Ohhhh that silly drunk giraffe. Granted, he does attempt a bit of a scottish accent from time to time when reading for Amy, but still. I bet Matt could have pulled off a girl voice if he wanted to...

Oh well, more laughs for me.

Moving on to the writing aspect of it--brilliant. Truly. I'm not a big fan of audio books, but this one does a great job of keeping things interesting and reminding you that they are in the desert with outlaws with guns and soldiers and all sorts of dangerous things. (Like explosive barrels)

The characters, Matt did a different voice for each of them, in order to distinguish. Afterall, every line can't be "He said. he said. she said. the doctor said."
Oooo and Amy was beautiful!
I wish they'd make this book into an episode, Amy was all dressed up like a western lady with a ruffle-skirt and white blouse with her hair all done up. <3
Our Doctor still had his bowtie, of course.

Another thing I loved was the fact that by the end of the book, they are so torn up. It's kind of funny, since we don't usually see (minus the raggedy doctor) the characters with their shirts torn, sleeves missing, bowties undone...etc.

It makes the story a bit more real if our lovely Time Lord and his companion get a little tussled.

AND NOW...
The Amy/Eleven moments.

First, they have a fight, one that isn't gone into much in details. But it's mainly the Doctor arguing that Amy should not go into that enemy camp to retrieve the artifact. One of the characters ears were "ringing" due to those two.
Oh, Doctor, how overprotective you are.

Then, they get separated. Oh I love it when they get separated! Amy's off to check the rest of the train for people and then the cart she's on, it gets knocked off..or something. Ohh poor Doctor, how he raged, yelling to have the train go back. He was just about ready to jump from the cart he was standing on to Amy's, but (I forget the characters name) stopped him.

Amy, of course, handles herself and gets back to the Doctor in one piece.
Their reunion --- Guh.
The Doctor's got a missing sleeve, his bowtie undone, his hair a mess and covered in dust. And he opens his arms, winks at Amy, and she rushes towards him, collecting him  up in her arms in an enormous hug. <333
The Doctor then holds Amy at arms length to inspect her, her skirt is all tattered and her blouse is covered in filth, her face is covered in soot, minus where the tear tracks are and her hair is a tangled mess.

The Doctor says this after smiling affectionately : "Man, if you ain't as beautiful as the day I first laid eyes on you." He said in in a mock southern accent.

<3333 Can you feel the love?! Can you?!

Ohhh and then on their walk back to the TARDIS (hand-in-hand, mind you) with the Doctor's jacket around Amy's shoulders. I pretty much died.

The audio book was written by Oliver Smith. Just so you know, gotta give that guy credit.

I highly suggest reading/listening for yourself though. It's a great Who-fix since Christmas is taking it's time.

thoughts, eleven/amy
