It was a lazy Sunday afternoon and Raven was swinging on the porch swing, minding her own business. She watched slightly as Wolverine walked past her he didn’t talk with her eighter, it was a mutual understanding between the two, she stayed out of his way and he stayed out of hers. The porch door slammed and a sobbing Jubilee ran after him.
“Wolvie! You can’t leave! My birthday’s coming up!” The young girl sounded positively crushed, Raven shook her head taking a drink of her coffee. What was Jubilee doing up anyways? It was way to early for the teen. Raven didn’t wear a watch barely followed a schedule but she knew when to get up when to go to bed. She yawned, sadly she didn’t care, but at the same time it didn’t please her to see the girl so depressed, she must be getting soft in her old age. You think the girl would be use to Wolverine leaving didn’t he do it every month or something?
“I’ll be back Kid” he ruffled her hair and started his motorcycle, “I always come back”
Another true fact, Raven thought to herself, what was it about this place? Everyone wanted to come here, no one wanted to leave and if you did leave you always came back. Even Emma Frost had taken residence up here. What hold did this place have? It was just a rambling mansion, full of mutants, a family if you like. What made this place work when The Brotherhood had crumbed? Could it be all this caring? Maybe. Raven shrugged again drinking her coffee once more.
Jubilee head hanging headed up the stairs, she stopped looking defiantly at Raven. “What?”
Raven laughed slightly , who did that girl think she was talking too? “I don’t recall saying anything to you Darling”
“I’m not your Darling!!!! It’s the way you looked at me!!!” Jubilee stamped her feet, “Haven’t you ever been sad before????”
“Should I have been?” Raven continued drinking her coffee this girl was mad or at least half crazy. “I looked at you? Don’t recall that my dear” Unfazed she smiled and continued drinking her coffee, “Sadly I think you have me mistaken for Jean or Ororo”
Jubilee let out a sigh and stamped her way into the house, as Raven rolled her eyes see this is why she didn’t want anymore children. The little bastards were all cute when they are first born, then they trap you into loving them and then they try to run you down. Oh hell no she was not going to get into that trap.
She finished her coffee and watched the sun come up over the horizon. There had been a time. A time she wanted to forget. A time that had ripped her heart out, made her doubt she could move on. Crushed her so badly she decided she would never never take the form again. To think of him. To be Leni for him again. To have that happiness, obviously she didn’t deserve it. She closed her eye but not before the single tear escaped, she would not cry for him, she would not cry for herself. Or the part of her that got left behind that day when she left him in bed and took off to parts unknown. Oh no she would forget or die trying.
