It was a reflex. Fate was just too helpful.

"THUNDER BLADE." Numerous lightning bolts struck numerous swords all along the sand worm, and they exploded, destroying the monster at Fate's command word: "Break!"

"I won't thank you, Testarossa," Signum says, seemingly unperturbed by the other mage's sudden appearance. After all, she'd suspected the TSAB would track her, and a decisive fight against this opponent should be fairly satisfying.

"You destroyed the target whose Linker Core I was going to collect."

She loads her last two cartridges into Laevateinn.

"Oh, um..." Fate was a little surprised with herself... she was supposed to be capturing Signum... "Well, it is my job to get in the way of the bad guys."

Even so, she took a stance.

"So I'm a bad guy to you people..."

"I'd like to continue delaying the battle I said we'd finish, but frankly, you're faster than me. If I can't run from you, I have no choice but to fight."

Signum holds Laevateinn forward in one hand, and its scabbard in a reversed grip in the other. She raises her blade, inviting Testarossa's attack.
