Climbing Saturday

Dec 07, 2005 22:21

Being as we seem to have some new potential climbers I thought I would post to LJ to see if anyone was into climbing this weekend. That and I was due for my once annual post.

This post isn't that big, but I really wanted to try an lj cut.

In winter we usually go to one of the gyms in downtown Toronto to climb Saturday afternoons. Normally we meet at 2PM and climb till we are tired (5PM or so). Occasionally we go Sundays and rarely Friday evenings. I am probably only able to go this weekend on Saturday at the usual time.

Soooo, who is interested? Which gym do you want to go to?

I think there were a couple of folks who expressed interest but only had a small amount of experience or were complete n00bs. When you go to a gym for the first time you either need to take a belay certification test or you need to sign a form saying you won't belay or tie yourself in (and won't be instructed by the experienced climbers you are with). Not belaying is only really viable if there is two or more experienced climbers with you and probably not practical if there is more than one person who can't belay. To take the belay cert test you will need to take a beginner course. The course lasts for an hour or two and deals with the basics. After the course you will be able to spend the rest of the day climbing. The next time you go to the gym after the course you will take the certification test and your name goes into the computer. Each time you go to a new gym you will have to take the test there as well.

Costs for the n00bs (variable depending on gym)
rental of gear (harness/shoes/chalkbag): 10-15 bucks
daypass to climb: 12-15 bucks
beginner course (includes gear rental): 30-35 bucks
