[[Okay Rylen, so here's the dealio with this post. Hazel will be sending the YEAR with Harlan, and neither him, nor Koel are aware of Adaous' existance. :D]]
Koel, drummed his fingers against the dashboard of the taxi, his gaze flicking over to where Hazel sat in the back seat. The younger boy was staring out the window, his features relaxed and excitement flarring up along his gaze. He turned in his seat, reaching back to pat at his younger brother's knee. "Are ye sure y'all wannna stay here inta tha school year?" He asked, drawing Hazel's attention away from the passing landscape. "Ah could come git y'all in August."
"You know that wouldn't work." Hazel stated, patting the back of Koel's hand gently. "Dad's trial isn't for another full year."
"Ah know but-" Koel sighed, his eyes drawing shut. Hazel had a good point. Parole was a son of a bitch that way. "S'just a long time fer y'all ta be gone. From tha school, from tha Ranch, from us."
"I'm doing homeschool, so I won't fall behind," Hazel's face lit up, the cab turning down a long dirt driveway and up towards a large, ranch building. "Besides, Harlan's already said that you guys should come up here for the holidays. I'll see you."
"S'pose." Koel turned back in his seat as the car came to a rolling stop. He paid the forty dollar flat rate and eased himself out of the cab, going to the back to help Hazel with the duffle bags they'd packed for the boy's year stay away. The cab pulled back out of the driveway and Koel began to make his way up to the porch. Hazel watched the cowboy for a moment, the way he favoured one leg, the slight twitch in his bad arm, his heart sank. "Koel." Hazel hopped up next to his brother, bumping their shoulders carefully together. "I'll be okay. I love being at Harlan's, we haven't been here in so long so..." He shrugged, managing a grin, "really, I'm just incredibly excited."
"Alright." Koel allowed himself to smile, stopping at the front door. "S'pose s'all fer tha best then." He raised his fist back, and knocked.
