Leon pushed his good shoulder up against the stark white wall of the hospital hallway. The receiver of one of the building's landlines was tucked up to his ear as he cast his gaze down the brightly lit hallway. He listened idly to the other end of the line, his fingers picking at the peeling paint from the drywall. "The older one's awake," he stated, flicking his gaze up and trying his darnedest not to scowl at a passing nurse.

Leon went silent, an intense feeling of discomfort clenching in his stomach. He'd never been one for relationships, and he'd never even fathomed that he'd ever meet his mate. He wasn't ready for this. "What am I supposed to say?"
"You don't have to say anything. In fact, you should just leave the whole mate thing alone until he figures it out for himself." Jacques sounded far too calm for all of this. "Right now, you're there as my brother. Explain the pack, tell them about being wolf. Let that sink in first, he probably won't even notice anything about you until he's a little older."
"Fine." Leon pushed his forehead off of the wall, his shoulders slumping a bit in defeat. "But so help me god you'd better get down here as soon as you're off."

Leon could handle the glares he'd been receiving since he awkwardly shuffled into the occupied room. He could handle standing there in the drawn out silence, feeling the weight of tension, with the glares Russel not-so-subtly sent his way. But when Alex woke up, when realization sliced through that sweet face like and the kid crumpled down into his knees...that was something Leon couldn't handle.
It was weird, because he'd always thought that the whole mate-bond had a more...sexual edge. The few times he'd seen it around the pack, the initial urges were are uncontrollable and carnal. Instead, his urge was to protect. It was absolutely consuming, since the moment he'd laid sight on this kid

Leon looked at the girl tightly when she spoke, his brows pinching together. He didn’t know who this chick thought she was, but how the hell would she know where Jacques was? He shook his head, not even bothering to grace her with a response as he turned on heel to peer out the doorway. The ex-marine stared at him, his expression cold and serious. "She told me you were here Jacques. I hadn't even caught a wiff of you yet, I figured you'd be held up all day, and she knew you were here."
Shit. Jacques kept one hand on his brother's arm, trying to keep a hold of the older wolf, to keep him calm. This was getting ridiculous, and fast. First they find out the kid's Leon's mate, now they find out they've got two pups allied with an unregistered psychic. "How the fuck are we going to explain this to Alpha?"
"Fuck if I know." Leon shrugged off Jacques hold a bit, coming to scrub his caloused hands over his face.
