A Technical LJ Question

Jul 15, 2005 12:33

Is there any way that I can force an image to fit the layout/entry?

I'm working on a post of pictures from my Costa Rica vacation last week. But the pictures is HUGE, I mean, really HUGE!

Thanks!

you need to use an image editing program to decrease the size of the picture. If you force it (manually enter the width and height into the img src code), then the picture size (in kb/mb) will still be big even if the physical dimensions are not. Which would mean more bandwidth and loading times.

I use photoshop, but I'm sure there are bunches of free ones out there. Try download.com and just look for something that says image editing and image resizing. I think paint shop pro has a free trial version available.

Thanks! Will do that. Am currently looking for a program to download at the moment.

Just one more question. What size should I resize the images to? Thanks!

For general LJ posts, I prefer something about 400-450px wide (and you just select to keep the image proportional as you resize it and it will adjust the height accordingly). At 72 dpi per inch. Behind a cut tag you can make it bigger, but you probably don't need to.

Hey, thanks for your help! Used 450 x 338 and got a program that could resize all the images at the same time. Now it's all small but pretty! Thanks again! Certainly made the uploading time faster by bounds! Makes me very happy! :)
