Very interesting article, C. And I've been meaning to say congratulations and good luck on starting a new stage in your education. The school you're going to sounds really interesting and I hope you have a great time!

Thanks, hon! :) Hah. Thanks for the congratulations. Getting nervous now, gah! So soon. Less than five weeks now, I think. It's a crazy feeling.

Let's hope that I'll have a good time, shall we? :) I'm sure I will, but still! Until I experience it, I will be doubting it all. :P

Just a suggestion, you might want to **** out your surname/school etc. Identifying yourself on an open journal entry can be a bit of a trouble magnet... Sup to you, of course ;D

By the way - a year without an interpreter - very impressive!

Heh. I'm not too worried being it an open entry. Never had bad experiences with this type of thing. Of course, it can change drastically and would be a bad idea for me to attract trouble. But eh, to me, I don't care too much at the moment. *shrug* Oh, well. I may change my mind and friend-lock the post, at least. We'll see! Thanks for worrying! :)

Hah. Somehow, it was a easy year. With interpreters, hard as hell. Weird, no? But then, I had honor classes with interpreters. Maybe it was just that I got flexible teachers. *shrugs* Heh. I have been lucky all my life. :P

What a great article!

For my job, I was involved with a big project that included a committee of representatives from the Deaf community; I fell in love with ASL as a language, and have taken a course -- plan to take more.

Yours,

Fuschia

Thanks! :) Makes me a bit embarrassed when things is wrriten about me. I have a couple of articles from a while back, I believe, about me winning top honors in a spelling bee for the deaf.

Really. That's awesome! Damn. I have a cool flist! :D Heh. ASL is a cool language, I'd have to admit. I'm even considering majoring in Deaf Studies as part as my plan to teach History to deaf kids while I teach ASL at colleges or something like that. :) Have some great experiences teaching ASL, so that's why I'm considering it. :)

Heee! Great article. I had to show off and dragged my mom here to read your article and she said you're as much an 'Überflieger' as I am, which means that you're a high achiever. ;-)

BTW, what's the FCAT? *curious*

Hah. Tell your mom thanks for the compliment, I suppose. ;) I guess I am...not my fault that everything comes easily to me, though! :P

Hah. The FCAT is a state-wide standardized test that you have to pass in order to graduate high school. The test is given in the sophomore year, which you will have to pass. If you don't, you'll be forced to take intentsive reading and math classes, in addition to regular reading and math classes. They will be given around six opportunities to take the FCAT until you absolutely have to pass the FCAT in order to graduate, even though you have the grades and community service hours, etc.

My deaf friends had to take the FCAT countless times. But they got a waiver at the end of their senior year in order to graduate. But they had to show that they TRIED to pass, like tutoring and getting good grades in the intentsive reading and math classes, etc. So yeah, that's the FCAT. Heh.
