Mrs. Gold,
Your notes would be much appreciated. It does appear there is some late Sumerian influence, but I don't believe there is Latin confusing things. It may be worth looking into Akkadian first. They are often studied together because of similar influences, however, there are at least two known variant forms which will make it interesting.
This is a rather impressive hobby for a librarian to pick up in her free time, and one with a familiarity with Ancient Sumerian no less. Did you attend a university? I could find no record of you in the Oxford student files.

Dr. Roberts:
My notes might not be quite so much help if that's not a Latinate influence, but I've scanned them regardless. If my scrawl is illegible in places, let me know and I'll transcribe.
My incredibly limited, very clumsy Sumerian comes from a whim I had about a year and a half ago that I wanted to translate The Descent of Inanna for myself, after getting frustrated with the lack of nuance (and outright contradictions) in two or three versions I'd looked over.
And I would have dearly loved to have attended Oxford, but no, my Library Science qualification is Maine State University. Small town girl at heart. I've not really had the chance to travel, more's the pity.

Mrs. Gold:
I'm sure I your scrawl is plenty legible. We would be poor linguists if it was not. The doodles in the margins were especially enlightening.
That's quite a whim. I'm what interpretations of The Decent brought you to. There is some debate on the meaning, as with all stories of course. I may have to pick it up again myself once we've finished with this book of yours.
I only wish I had students with your skill and initiative. It would seem your small town has served you well enough, and this antiquities dealer has left you a fascinating gift.
