David knocks on Jack Urgayle's door. His head is still groggy even after the long walk, from the pills and alcohol still in his system. He tries to focus not wanting Jack to realise.

In his mind he has rehearsed his speech. A very convincing speech about reconiliation of past wrongs and of wanting to change his life. He has almost convinced himself with it. Words are funny that way, if you repeat them enough they both become fact and somewhat meaningless at the same time.

There is no answer, so David knocks again.

Dean hears knocking and realises he's not dreaming it. Jack should have the keys with him so for a moment Dean is tempted not to open. The drugs' effect are decreasing by the minute and he moves stiffly, limping to the door and opening it while wishing for more analgesics.

David is on the other side of the door. Looking as if he is barely managing to stand upright on his own.

"David."

For a moment David thinks he has gone to Dean's by mistake. Then he realises he has no idea where Dean lives. He looks around quickly to confirm this is Jack's place. Yes, yes it is. So... Dean is at Jack's place.

Dean also looks like complete shit.

"You look like crap. What the fuck happened?"

"What do you think? If it was a bus running me over, it had two legs and fucking expensive clothes. Jack's not here, want to come in?"

Emily has taken a leave of absence from work. Her explanation to the Senator, to Steven, to her parents, even to Raquel, has been that she needs this time to work on her marraige. They have all accepted it. Even her parents who didn't accept the marraige to begin with.

And it is not entirely a lie. Emily is working on her marraige. OR working out her marraige. Or something. Something is not right in the state of Denmark. Something is not right at all. And in her soul, she believes that there is more to David Shaw than she knows, and that it has something to do with her husband.

None of this explains, however, why as she sits alone, having reached another dead end, another person who can offer her no answers, that she remembers Dean. Dean and the coffee. And she smiles and reaches for the phone.

"Dean," She says. "I do hope I have no disturbed you?"

"Emily," how not to recognise her voice right away. "It's a pleasure to hear from you. Really. I was thinking that you wouldn't have called. And no, you are not disturbing me. How are you?"

"I'm --- tired. And home alone. My husband, Steven, is at Poker. I was going to get an early night but then I thought of you."

"I'm glad to hear from you. And you can call me anytime you're alone. I'll do my best to keep you company. Tell you stories, sing you a song, which I would not recommend, I sing really badly...as long as I can hear a smile, on the other side of the line. It was good, meeting you. I was tired and lonely that day, and talking with you helped me out."
