It was still such a shock to Heather that she scored a date with Carver Edlund or his real name, Chuck. She always liked to imagine what her favorite author was like and to know he was such an amazing guy, well, it's like that famous quote, Carpe Diem and that's just what she did by asking him out to dinner to this fancy little restaurant near her ( Read more... )

Chuck hadn't been on an actual date in a long time. After His relationship with Becky had died early on, it was a more or less unrelenting march of the same old pathetic, lonely routine that mostly didn't involve putting on pants during the day. Anybody else would have been embarrassed by a house with the level of mess that His had, or spent all day cleaning, but it was easy enough for Him- He just said, "Man, this place really needs to be clean," and voila.

He felt okay about it; He only ever used even a fraction of the power that was His for the little things. It kept Him rooted, and grounded in things like nervously adjusting His tie while waiting for Heather to show up. And He was nervous. He made sure to keep the whole "omniscient" thing out of most of His life path; things were infinitely more exciting, in a distant kind of way that He mostly didn't remember when trying to find clean socks and ordering pizza in his bathrobe ( ... )

Perking up at the sound of the door opening, Heather gave Chuck an equal nervous smile. The girl couldn't even remember the last time she went on a date. "Sure." She said softly, trying to keep her voice steady as she slid into the house, looking around in awe at the oldness of the home. "I-I hope you don't mind me coming early." Heather added on as she turned around to face Chuck with another small smile. She was prone to go to places early since she never liked being late for something.

"Nice place you have here, by the way." Heather added on, not wanting to stand there and look like an idiot.

"No, it's cool, early is definitely cool. And thanks." Getting a little more comfortable, He adjusted his collar with a little snap and closed the door behind him.

"You know, why don't we just go, instead? My house is way too boring and I'd hate to waste the time of someone like you."

"Heh, no problem." Heather replied, her smile becoming a little brighter and less akward as she became a little more relaxed. Even though she was going out with her idol, Heather know Chuck was basically a regular guy. Heather chuckled and shook her head, "Nothing about you or your home bores me, Chuck." She said warmly as she smiled brightly at him. She was serious. Chuck really couldn't bore her.

"There isn't really a way to bore me when I'm with someone like you." She added on shyly.
