WTC has been acquired ...

Xtri.com has recently learned that Providence Equity (an investment firm based in Providence, RI) has acquired the world renowned World Triathlon Corporation (WTC). Details are limited at this time, but it has been suggested that the price tag for the Ironman conglomerate was between $50-80 Million, which still ranks as one of the most elite brands ( Read more... )

In some ways, I think they were aquired for cheap; Ironman has a hell of a strong brand.

I have to wonder, though, if this won't greatly dampen the amount of money they receive via sponsorship and goodwill. That kind of money doesn't really say "non-profit."

WTC has never been a non-profit.

all this means is that the price will go up, they will license the name more then sell out to someone else.

when someone can point to Ironman Live and it being an enhancement to the brand. The athlete tracking is cool, but come on, it's not very well done.
