~A Month Later~
They both entered the apartment after the winter break. They really didn’t have a chance to see each other even though they were across the street from each other. Jensen went into the bedroom and fell onto the bed as Jared followed him in. He tossed the bags on the floor and looked up at Jensen. He walked over to him and lifted up Jensen’s sweater. “What did your mother feed you?” he joked.
“Hey, you know how my mom loves to bake and know my sweet tooth these days.”
“What are you up to now?”
“Twenty-five when I left, but I’m fearing thirty nowadays.”
“Geez, Jensen, that’s you whole weight gain for the pregnancy, and you still have three months.”
“I can’t help if I’m hungry all the time and I want sweets.”
“This kid is turning you into a fat pig.”
Jensen pushed himself up. “Excuse me?”
“Look at you.”
“Jared, I get it, don’t worry. We just need to get through the next three months, and you won’t have to worry about this kid.”
“I’m not saying that.”
“Jared, we have our own ways of dealing with this. I want to keep the baby but you don’t, so for me not to talk about it, I eat. You like to insult me as your way of dealing with this.”
Jared took a seat on the bed next to him. “I do that?”
“Yes. I know one day we will have to decide. One of us gives in, or we go our separate ways.”
“I don’t want that.”
“Either do I,” he said with a gasp.
“You okay?”
“Just the baby kicking. Still getting used to it.”
“When did this start?”
“I started feeling them move before Thanksgiving but the kicking about the past two weeks. You want to feel?”
“No, I’m good.” He got up from the bed as Jensen sighed.
~February~
Jensen finished getting everything all set up for him to do his schoolwork from home. He finished packing his bags to head home to be close to his folks when he went into labor. He rubbed the side of his stomach where the baby was kicking him. “I know you’re going to miss your dad, but I have to be close to my family for when you decide to come into this world.”
Jared came home from class, not really wanting to be there knowing that night was the last night he had with Jensen. He walked into the bedroom when Jensen was talking to the baby. “You all packed?”
“Looks like it.”
“I’ll miss you.”
Jensen walked over to him and kissed him. “I’ll miss you, too.”
“So, your mom is going to call me when you go into labor?”
“Yes, the adoption lady will be there, and we both will need to sign our rights away for them to adopt the baby. Then I could be back home working on my school work and hopefully be able to graduate in May as planned.” Jared nodded. Jensen had gotten everything planned out.
“It’s what’s best for them. They need a good home.” Jensen agreed to that.
~Summer of Regrets~
Jared laid in bed alone, missing Jensen, thinking of the wonderful times they had over the summer for that one month; Then the day Jensen told him he was pregnant; But he couldn’t help thinking of the night Jensen was asleep and he talked to his child as they rubbed up against his hand. He knew they knew who he was. He loved the baby, but he wasn’t ready to be a father; But he knew he was missing them both. As he laid there, it hit him. He loved Jensen. He wanted to be with Jensen. He jumped out of bed and started packing his bags. He was going to spend his boyfriend’s birthday with him, not four hours away.
He was already three hours on the road when his phone rang. He saw Jensen’s number. “Hey, babe.”
“Jared, Jensen went into labor last night.” Jensen’s mother said.
“Is he okay?”
“We are at the hospital. The labor is going pretty fast but rough. They might have to take the baby out.”
“Tell him I love him, and I am on my way. I’ll be there in two hours.”
“Will do. Drive safely.”
“Bye.” He hung up the phone. Even though he was only an hour away, he had to do something before he got to the hospital.
