This book is rocking my world

Yesterday I realized I didn't know squat about writing.

I've taken some twenty college hours specifically on the topic, taught creative writing myself, published short stories, drafted four novels, and read thousands of books. And yet, I still have so much to learn.

I've been very interested in the stuff you've been posting here. I actually have the book Scene & Structure somewhere & haven't picked it up in years--clearly I need to! I like to write intuitively and I resist structure, so don't really like these ideas, but I'm sure you're right that they work ( ... )

Alison! That's amazing. And the perfect proof that art really does evolve from life, and that when we do it properly, our writing transcends the situation in the story and can be applied to other things--even scene structure to marriage. The way you transferred this speaks to how your writing will surely affect readers.

I wish you the best figuring all this out. Maybe if I put a little structure in MY life, I'd iron a few things out too...but, like you, I resist structure in all forms.

Apparently it's time to change.
