Thank you to every single one of you for your support this past weekend and your concern about Marcio. You guys really are great, and I appreciate it

It's kind of a long story. Last Monday Marcio started having pain in his left arm and by Wednesday, it progressed to numbness in the left side of his body, including his face. He had weakness on the left side and pain in the left side of his face. His speech became somewhat slurred on Thursday, and he became slightly confused and his short-term memory would come and go. Thursday night I took him to the emergency room, where we stayed for 9 hours. They did blood tests and heart tests and a CT scan, which came out normal. Friday morning at 5:30 they made the decision to admit him to run further tests, and my mom made the decision to cancel the party cause who knows how long they'd keep him and how he'd feel once he got out. So they did more tests and an MRI, which came out normal. They discharged him at 7:30 Friday night with the diagnosis of a TIA, which is a small stroke (like a warning) that leaves no long-term effects and cannot be seen with imaging. His symptoms disappeared Friday morning but returned Friday night and

I am so sorry you had to go through all this, but it really sounds like you are doing everything you can and the fact that you have kept it together so far is awesome. You have always been an incredible strong person and so I know you and Marcio will get through this and he will be back to great health. If you ever need to talk I am always here for you! ::HUGS::
Thank you! I have been trying to be strong. I have to admit that I brokedown both Sunday and yesterday, but after I was finished, I got right back up and continued dealing with all of this. And maybe it will happen again. But I know that while I can admit to him (and have) that I am scared, I cannot be all weak because he needs me and I have to pull thru for him. I would need it from him, so I am trying to do that for him.
Well I'm glad he is doing better and I think it's a great idea to change your diets, exercise, etc. It sucks about the party but the important thing is that Marcio is ok.
Thank you. Yeah, we decided together that the best thing to do is treat it as a stroke and live like stroke victims. I'm not going to eating awesome food while he's sitting there eating all stroke-approved food, so I am changing my lifestyle as well. The hardest thing for both of us will be the smoking. He called me from work before all cranky cause he couldn't smoke. :(
Well I just quit smoking a little over a week ago. Is he using the patch? I've found it to be not that hard. It was bad the first day and when I drank on Friday night but otherwise I am fine. there are lots of supportive things you can find online- things that should encourage him so you should look up some of that stuff.
He's scared, and they say fear is a great motivator. He's gone from abou a pack and a half a day to like 5 cigarrettes just because he knows quitting reduces your risk of a stroke by like 50%. He's going to need help with the last 5 tho, I am certain of that.
I, however, have been overloading on smoking because of the stress, so I have been debating going during lunch to pick up the patch and seeing what happens.
See my reply to Anna for a synopsis of this weekend's events. I am completely and utterly blown away that my 28-year-old husband might have had a stroke. But if he did, better this kind right now than a full-blown stroke that leaves him incapacitated 2 years from now.
Like I said, I am holding onto my little thread of sanity for dear life.
Don't worry about the party, that's something can be rescheduled. Marcio unfortunately cannot! Glad he's out and about and your both looking to be healthier =) Never anything wrong with that! I'm sorry about all of it but your doing the right thing by adjusting to the changes and taking it a day at a time. Hang in there! ::hugs::
The only thin we can do right now is take it 1 day at a time and be very careful about everything from now on, which is a daunting task in and of itself, but I'm hoping that soon it'll all just become routine.
Sorry I missed your call last night =( Yes over time it will just become what you do =) And goals are exciting and keep things interesting so it's not so bad.
He knows these lifestyle changes are essential to his well-being and his health, so he is willing to do it, but you should see his face when he saw what I made him for lunch today!
Yes, goals are exciting and keep things interesting. Unfortunately, the goal of preventing my husband from having another stroke is not a goal I am looking forward to. :(
