[Fringe] Dear Rachel...

Apr 20, 2009 20:25

Name of Series: Fringe
Name of Character: Rachel Dunham
Warnings: Like, nothing...vaguely for "Unleashed".
Summary: Got two words for you, hun: stay away.

Dear Rachel,

You're a nice person. You truly are. What a sweet young slacker with a fatherless child and no job or home. And I mean that in the kindest way. I do. Especially since your daughter is so flippin' adorable. In fact, sometimes I wish you weren't so nice. I wish you were a bitch. Then at least I could hate you without a guilty conscience.

Anyway, I actually have five words for you now. For the sake of clarity. Especially since I'm only going to say it once.

Stay Away From Peter Bishop.

He ain't yours, darlin'. No way no how. Don't even try fooling yourself on that one. And I can tell--you're kinda the girl he would fall for. So I'm doubly warning you. Watchout.

No, it's not jealousy. Not even if that little fangirl inside me squeals and runs in pointless circles whenever he comes on screen. Or I let out the inadvertent squeak whenever he has a really hot line. Yeah, no. Really, I'm telling you because he belongs to your sister. He belongs, utterly and completely, to Olivia.

You need a guy. I understand. You've got a fatherless daughter, you need support.

But so does Olivia. And she's worked harder for it than you have.

Did you see him hold her after she came out of the tank? No. They need each other in a way you and Peter don't. You'd be like...a pet. A child he has to take care of. Olivia would be a partner. A headstrong, argumentative partner, but wonderfully determined and stubborn. You're no good for him, sweetheart. He'd be bored and frustrated with your dependency before you can say "pina coladas". You've seen Olivia. You've seen how she drives herself into the ground. Don't take from her the one thing that's keeping her tumultuous world from bucking her off her feet, the one thing that's keeping her tethered to reality.

The youngest always gets screwed, hun. That's life. Find yourself a man, a job, and maybe an apartment.

...but even if you do, you're still not getting Peter. He's Olivia's, through and through.
