Name of Series: Pokémon (anime)
Name of Character: Jirarudan
Warnings: Second movie spoilers
Summary: Did it never once occur to you, man?

So apparently you're fiendishly intelligent. That's great. I mean, you helped with the design of your ship (in itself a marvel of engineering), you probably designed those capture rings that any Evil Team worth their salt would kill for, you've amassed the treasures of the world, and you figured out how to bring Lugia out of hiding.

...wait, hold up. That last one...yeah. Sure, the legend did tell you how to do it, and it did work...but the legend also told you that if you did it and the Chosen One wasn't there to stop it, THE WORLD WOULD END.

But ok, fine, I can assume you just took for granted that the Chosen One would be there, that whoever it was would set things right with the elemental Birds and you could be on your merry way with your newly captured Sea God. Let's say for a moment that that was what went through your neatly coiffed green head. Makes sense--you believed in the rest of the legend, no reason to think you'd disregard that last part.

I can also believe, and quite easily, that the legend never said that the Birds had to be FREE, just that they had to be in BALANCE, and that's why you were going after Articuno even though the disrupted balance already insured that Lugia was on its way. I mean, you make it quite clear in the movie that the Birds, valuable though they may be, are simply a means to an end.

Unfortunately, trying to capture all three to settle the balance...yeah, you don't even get that far.

You don't even get to SEE Lugia before things go to hell. The two Birds you capture pick a fight and blow a hole in the side of your ship. Your ship CRASHES and the Birds escape and take their battle across the sky. And you're left in your shipwreck amidst everything you've ever built.

So what do you do?

You wait for Lugia to appear, then, at the first opportunity, even though by this point you HAVE to have noticed that things were falling apart outside your ship, YOU TRY TO CAPTURE IT. I get that you're notoriously single-minded and all, but seriously, your gallery is GONE. Failing everything else (and that's a LOT of things), where are you planning on PUTTING a seventeen-foot sea god?

So of course, Lugia doesn't take kindly to this and blows up the REST of your ship. In the last shot of you, you're standing in RUBBLE and BROKEN METAL.

...so why do I have the distinct impression that you're still out there after Lugia? Even going beyond the dub addition of you vowing to begin again, because even that doesn't mention Lugia, just the more vague "being a Collector" thing.

And in a plot-unrelated thing, in the movie the closest you get to a laugh is a slight chuckle. Why oh why do you laugh like an Arkham escapee in your image song?

Anyway, you're awesome and win and really not a villian (bad guy yes, but you lack the evil intent of a true villian since you seemed to be completely unaware of not only that you were behind all this, but also that anything not involving you was going wrong in the first place), but I'd tell you "never change" only that would make me sad because you don't learn anything. Please, you're a highly intelligent man. Why aren't you all that bright?
