Fic: In My Home, We Smoke Icicles

Dec 21, 2013 23:25

There is too much going on in this post, agh.

I did a crappy job but passed anyway, and now I'm officially a second year medical student \o/ ( Vacation squee )

ok, yes, i read that fic for the hedgehog joke. and it was a good fic! nicely subtly creepy, and i really loved sam's promise to himself that he would give up smoking as a sacrifice, as if it would keep dean from melting, and the way his smoking thoughts and worry for dean thread all through the fic. and i fail to be surprised at the emphasis on food in the beginning. heh.

(i'm not sure where i stand on sam smoking, but i can buy that dean smokes from time to time, or that he used to. i don't think it's totally outside the realm of possibility that sam does too. and of course they swear! they swear like sailors! i mean, seriously, if the cw allowed four-letter words we'd hear a lot of them.)

and hey, congrats on successfully passing! one year closer to being dr tiger. :D

I'm glad the hedgehog joke did it :D And hey, I like your opinions about canon! I can believe that Sam quit, but I can't believe that he never smoked. He grew up with an ex Marine, in the back of a car, with a brother who thinks he is Han Solo. He is a ghetto kid. And, to be honest, I just want to push the fic stereotype: if it eats salads, exercises, farts rainbows and is all educated, it's Sam. So I like the idea that he would smoke at some point and not realize it.

i kinda wonder how much of the sam stereotype (salad, exercise, healthy living habits) is behavior he picked up at stanford. like you have him quitting smoking in college because it's part of an image he wants to shed (and a past he wants to erase) - which makes total sense to me - he started eating right and exercising and using good shampoo and getting into recent music and whatever as a way to fit in with his smart, well-brought-up, reasonably economically privileged college friends. it's another part of his reaction against being the ghetto kid.

and he only farted rainbows for a brief period after being covered with glitter spooge. :D

It makes sense that he'd pick up that behavior and attitude at Stanford, among more privileged kids. Hehehe, okay, that clown episode was one of the better things in S7 :D

Congrats on passing! \o/ And I had fun meeting you. Next time, maybe someplace less loud. :D

Love the story, especially the last two sentences. "I will give you ten more brothers. A hundred more brothers." Something so chilling (haha pun intended) about that offer. I love how you made the witch so inhuman with only a few lines of dialogue.

They shared a bag of chocolate-covered coffee beans at breakfast. It was profoundly dissatisfying.

LOL! I have been there.

Amen :D I don't know what's with that place, but its volume is pretty ridiculous.

Hehe, I can only imagine how a bag of coffee beans would be a poor substitute :D Thank you!

Eeeeeeeee! This is wonderful! Love this especially: On the other hand, he wanted to give something up, something other than coffee, hot food and hot showers, which Dean had to give up as well. Some childish, embarrassing thought crept and crept around the edges of his consciousness, something about a sacrifice to buy something good back, and it was too ridiculous to ever give voice to. Dean sold his soul once for Sam. Sam was now giving up cigarettes. Goddamn, Winchester, way to pay your debts. Oh, Sam! And the ending was perfect.

As horror-creepy as this story was, the brotherly banter had me grinning even as I shivered! THANK YOU!

:D I almost gave you a possibly unpleasant surprise of a fic. I'm glad this wasn't it and that you liked it. Thank you! It's been a pleasure writing a story for you.

Heh, so I have a fic languishing on my hard drive that I called 'Ice-Man' but ditched because I was going nowhere with it so this is a treat!! People turning to ice and then there being shippy gen bed-sharing is a thing of mine, I guess :D ( ... )

I do hope that your fic at least partially makes it into other fics. It's a shame to waste good ideas, but yeah, I know how they sometimes sit there and can't decide what they want to be when they grow up. By the way, I still need to read that second part of "Inamorata". I have a back log of fics to read :/

Yay, I'm glad our head canon matches on smoking :D And thank you! You have great holidays, too!

That one was mainly the result of mooning over a Haruki Murakami story with similar themes :D That man writes the strangest stories. I still have one more part of Inamorata to write, if only My laptop would come back from the service centre :/

His plots are pretty amazing :D I'm glad you like those books, too. I used to be the biggest fan, had an almost complete collection, until I recently tried to reread "Wonderland and the End of the World" and realized that his protagonist is always the same dude and the women get objectified fiercely. Plots are super cool, though.

I hope you zombie laptop comes back to life once more! That's gotta suck.

Woot, congrats! SO PROUD OF YOU.

And this fic? Effin' flawless, truth. Dean gnoshing on ice, Sam chasing off the witch by breathing on the glass, and the last lines. Yo, TIGHT.

Hey, PM me an address where I can float you a crappy Xmas card, yeah? :D
